Ed Sheeran gives fans a surprise performance, joins Maisie Peters onstage for ‘Castle on the Hill’ duet

At Maisie Peters’ Melbourne show, fans got way more than they hoped for. Right in the middle of her set, she stopped everything and brought out Ed Sheeran. Yes — Ed Sheeran himself joined Maisie for a surprise duet of his own hit song, ‘Castle on the Hill’.

What happened?

It all happened on March 4, 2026, at The Forum Theatre. Maisie was in the middle of her Australian tour, and out of nowhere, she teased a surprise guest. Then Sheeran walked out, and the place just exploded. Without even a warning, Peters and Sheeran dove right into ‘Castle on the Hill’, one of Sheeran’s biggest songs, and the audience sang along.

After the show, the moment took on a life of its own online. Maisie posted a video clip and called it “magical,” thanking Sheeran for joining her. For her, this wasn’t just a cool stunt. She shared how she watched him play that same song at “over 60-something gigs” back when she was his tour opener. So sharing the stage with him, on her own tour, singing that song — it meant everything. It felt like things had come full circle.

Maisie Peters and Ed Sheeran: Beyond an on-stage collaboration

In case you haven’t heard of Maisie Peters yet, she’s a British singer-songwriter who’s been making big waves in pop. Born in 2000, she built her early following on social media and streaming, then dropped her debut album ‘You Signed Up for This’ in 2021. Her clever, personal lyrics and catchy hooks got the attention of the listeners. Her second album, ‘The Good Witch’, did great with both critics and fans, and she’s already got a third one, ‘Florescence’, on the way in 2026.And as for Ed Sheeran, he shot to fame in the 2010s with songs like ‘The A Team’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’, and ‘Shape of You’. He’s sold over 200 million records, won a stack of Grammys, and packed out stadiums all over the world. ‘Castle on the Hill’ is one of his most loved songs, inspired by his childhood in Suffolk, England. But the real story here isn’t just about two artists sharing a stage. Maisie and Ed go way back, as she’s signed to his label, Gingerbread Man Records (under Atlantic), and she got her huge break at just 21. Sheeran’s been a mentor, a supporter, and he brought her out as his opening act for his world tour in 2023. Per Rolling Stone, Maisie even told the Melbourne crowd that Sheeran taught her about performing and songwriting, and took her around the world.
