Parents of NYC bomb suspect live in $2 million, 5,800-square-foot Pennsylvania home and are naturalised US citizens

The parents of one of the two men accused in an attempted bombing near New York City’s Gracie Mansion are naturalized US citizens who immigrated from Afghanistan and own a suburban Pennsylvania home valued at about $2.25 million.19‑year‑old Ibrahim Kayumi and 18‑year‑old Emir Balat, both from Pennsylvania, were arrested last week after improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were thrown during a protest outside the official residence of NYC’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani. The devices did not detonate, and no one was injured. The incident is being investigated as an ISIS‑inspired terrorism attempt.Public records show Kayumi’s parents live in a large 5,800‑square‑foot home in Newtown, Pennsylvania, with six bedrooms and five bathrooms. The property is valued at around $2.2 million to $2.25 million, reports the New York Post. Kayumi’s parents were born in Afghanistan and later became naturalized US citizens in 2004 and 2009, according to law enforcement. There is no public evidence linking Kayumi’s parents to the bombing plot; authorities have focused their investigation on the actions of the two suspects themselves alone. The second suspect, Emir Balat, is also a US citizen. His parents were born in Turkey and became naturalized US citizens in 2017. Balat lived with his family in a separate Pennsylvania home valued at about $653,000 in Langhorne, Bucks County. The FBI executed search warrants at both properties after the incident as part of a terrorism investigation. Law enforcement collected evidence from both homes, though no charges have been filed against any family members of the suspects.According to police and prosecutors, Kayumi and Balat were at the protest in Manhattan when the homemade explosive devices, described as capable of causing serious harm, were thrown. At least one device contained a volatile compound used in international terror attacks. It was composed of nuts, bolts, and a fuse stored inside a jar.
