'Don't give the house to your kids': When Neena Gupta recalled heartbreaking story of a friend thrown out over property
Veteran star Neena Gupta has issued a compelling reminder to parents regarding the hasty transfer of property to their offspring. Drawing from a poignant personal story about a friend’s heart-wrenching experience of being cut off after a gift of a house, she underscored that parental affection does not always equate to gratitude or care from children.

In a poignant throwback moment Neena Gupta shared a blunt warning for parents about passing on self-acquired property too soon. In a recent interview, the actor said people should think carefully before putting their house in their children’s names while they are still alive. She tied that view to the emotional choices parents often make for their children, even when those decisions later hurt them. Gupta spoke openly about a real-life case involving someone she knew and said the outcome was painful.

Property advice from Neena Gupta

In 2022, while speaking to the Hindustan Times, Neena Gupta explained why she feels parents should not transfer their home to their children through a will or other written arrangement before death. Recalling the advice she gave a friend, she said, “It happened with someone I know. I had told them hundred times ‘marne se pehle makaan nahi naam karna bacho ke naam pe (parents should not transfer the house in the children’s names before death).”Gupta said that the friend ignored the warning and later faced a harsh reality. Gupta added, “But, they did it anyway. They were thrown out of the house during their ailment. People don’t listen and get emotional. This happens a lot because you can do anything for your kid. But, not necessarily they will be doing the same thing to you.”

Gupta’s throwback comments also connect with the theme of her recent film, ‘Vadh 2’. The story centers on parents who take heavy loans for their child’s education abroad, only for family trouble to spiral into murder. That backdrop made her remarks on property, emotion, and family duty stand out even more. The actor also spoke about her daughter, Masaba Gupta, and her reaction to the film. Neena said, “Masaba ne film nahin dekhi (Masaba has not watched the film). Madam is too busy now.”Neena and Masaba share a warm bond, and the actor has often stood by her daughter through public criticism and trolling. With one candid story, Neena Gupta delivered a clear message that parents often do everything for their children. But as she put it, that does not mean the children will always do the same in return.
