Oscars 2026 historic wins: Autumn Durald Arkapaw and Amy Madigan, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' shatter records
The Oscars 2026 delivered a night of historic wins, including Autumn Durald Arkapaw becoming the first woman to clinch Best Cinematography. ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ shone, with its song ‘Golden’ marking the first K-pop track to win an Academy Award. A rare tie occurred in Best Live Action Short, and Amy Madigan finally secured her first Oscar after a 40-year wait.

The award season officially ends with the Oscars, and tonight’s show was nothing short of a dramatic spectacle. From Amy Madigan winning her first Oscar to ‘Golden’ becoming the only K-pop song to win an Academy Award, many moments tonight will surely go down in history. Here is a look at some of the historic happenings at the Oscars 2026.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw: First woman to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography

‘Sinners’ won in 4 categories at the Oscar awards, including Best Cinematography. Not only that, but the win also made Oscar history, as the famed director Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman ever to win the title! She is also the first woman of color to win the award. In her speech, she thanked the film’s team for helping her get there and added, “I don’t get here without you guys.”

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ wins big

Earlier last year, the world was overtaken by ‘Kpop Demon Hunters.’ The film managed to break many records and was rightfully one of the most popular films of last year. That success showed at the Oscars tonight as the OTT film won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song! This was a landmark win for Maggie Han and for the portrayal of Korean culture.

‘Golden’ becomes first K-pop song to ever win an Oscar Award

As ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ made big wins at the Oscars, they also achieved another major milestone. The film’s original song ‘Golden,’ sung by EJae, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna, was also the first Korean song ever to win an Oscar award! The team already has a long list of accolades, however, this historic milestone is one of the most important ones yet.

‘The Singers’ and ‘Two People Exchanging Saliva’ win The Best Live Action Short in a historic tie

Awards for every title are always given to only one winner. However, at this year’s Oscars, history was made as ‘The Singers’ and ‘Two People Exchanging Saliva’ both took home the title for the same category. Their names were announced on stage, along with information that the two films had tied for the Best Live Action Short category. This is only the 7th time that a tie has happened in Oscar history since its inception.

Cassandra Kulukundis wins the first-ever Oscar Award for Best Casting

This year, the Best Casting Oscar was introduced. Cassandra Kulukundis, who worked on Paul Thomas Anderson’s film ‘One Battle After Another’, won the title and made history as the first-ever recipient of the award! The newly established category was introduced to honor those who work behind the scenes and celebrate the importance of casting directors in making films successful.

Amy Madigan secures Oscar award four decades after last win

Last year, Amy Madigan garnered a lot of praise for her portrayal of the evil witch in ‘Weapons.’ This award season, she was well recognized for her talent, and at the Oscars, she made history as well! Amy Madigan landed her first-ever Oscar award tonight for her role in ‘Weapons.’ It has been 40 years since the actress made a run at the Oscars, and it was fruitful. The actress was first nominated for an award in 1986 for ‘Twice In A Lifetime.’ She had been nominated for the same title as tonight but failed to win. In the past 40 years, the actress did not land one Oscar nomination until her hard work paid off.
