Steven Knight opens up about Tommy Shelby’s end in ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’

While talking to Entertainment Weekly about creating ‘Peaky Blinders’ and the beloved character of Tommy Shelby, Knight revealed that everything had been planned for the character.He stated, “I thought, to end it, he’s gonna have to go.” Knight further clarified that he always wanted to create a character that was not afraid of dying or the thought of death in any sense; however, it was planned that Shelby’s time would be limited. “From the beginning of creating this character, I wanted someone who didn’t care if he lived or died. That’s his superpower,” the creator of the hit show and film cited.

About ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’

The film picks up some time after the end of season 6 of ‘Peaky Blinders’, with Shelby going into a self-imposed hiding and staying away from the life of crime. In a peaceful space in the countryside, he seems to be content with his life; tormented by the fact that he had to kill his own brother. However, the past always comes to haunt him. This time around, Kaulo comes knocking on his door, insisting that he needs to come back to Birmingham because his son is taking the Peaky Blinders down the wrong road. Though he does not wish to return, the murder of his sister Ada brings him out of hiding, with all guns blazing as he plans to avenge her, while also setting his son straight.The film is set 6 years after the events of the finale of the hit OTT series.
