DC vs MI Live Score, IPL 2026: Can Delhi Capitals break Mumbai Indians’ dominance at Kotla?

DC vs MI Live Score, IPL 2026: When Delhi Capitals take on Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, it promises to be more than just another IPL 2026 league fixture. The opening game of the double-header pits a side desperate to improve its home record against a five-time champion team that has historically thrived in New Delhi.

MI hold the edge

Mumbai Indians have dominated this contest in recent years. Since 2022, they have won five of the seven meetings between the two sides, including both clashes last season. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium too, MI have come out on top in three of the last four encounters against Delhi Capitals.

With a yellow alert issued for rain, Axar Patel’s men — weather permitting — will need to produce something special to kick off their home leg on a positive note.

DC seek home turnaround

Delhi Capitals struggled at home last season, managing just one win in five matches. Improving that record will be a key focus this time around.

Much will depend on KL Rahul, who endured a disappointing outing with a golden duck against Lucknow Super Giants. However, he boasts an exceptional record against Mumbai Indians, averaging 69.7 across 20 innings, with six fifties and three hundreds. He is also just 24 runs away from completing 1,000 IPL runs against MI.

That said, MI’s pace duo poses a threat — Trent Boult has dismissed Rahul three times, while Jasprit Bumrah has accounted for him twice.

Bumrah vs DC, key factor

Bumrah remains MI’s biggest weapon against Delhi, having taken 30 wickets against them — the most by any bowler against a single franchise in IPL history. However, he does have a relatively high economy rate of 9.4 at this venue.

Middle-order strength for DC

Delhi’s batting depth looks solid, with Axar Patel, Pathum Nissanka and Nitish Rana expected to play key roles. Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs add stability and firepower in the middle and lower order.

Rizvi impressed in the previous game with an unbeaten 70 off 47 balls, showcasing his ability against spin — something that could prove crucial against MI’s slower bowlers. Stubbs, meanwhile, anchored the chase with a composed 39* and boasts an impressive record at this venue.

Bowling unit in focus

DC’s spin trio of Axar, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam will be crucial in controlling MI’s strong batting line-up.

Lungi Ngidi has been in excellent form, picking up 23 wickets in T20s this year, while his pace variations have been particularly effective. T Natarajan, returning from injury, also made an immediate impact with a three-wicket haul in the last game and will be key in the death overs.

MI’s batting firepower

Mumbai Indians come into the match high on confidence after winning their opening game — their first such win in 13 seasons.

Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma have formed a formidable opening pair, and with the short boundaries in Delhi, they could be even more dangerous. The middle order, featuring Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Sherfane Rutherford, provides immense depth and firepower.

Bowling concerns for MI

Despite Shardul Thakur’s three-wicket haul in the previous match, MI’s bowling unit has areas to address. Conceding 78 runs in the powerplay against KKR is not a template they would want to repeat.

Hardik Pandya’s lack of wickets in the powerplay since last season, coupled with a high economy rate, puts added responsibility on Trent Boult to deliver early breakthroughs. Team combinations and bowling roles will be key decisions for MI going forward.

Toss could be crucial

At a venue where chasing teams have won five of six matches this season, the toss could play a decisive role.

It remains to be seen whether Delhi Capitals can begin their home campaign strongly and turn the Arun Jaitley Stadium into a fortress, or if Mumbai Indians will continue their dominance with yet another win.
