In a candid chat with Hindustan Times ahead of his April 24 theatrical release, the actor opened up about the unexpected source of his social media attention, his very real feelings about marriage and family and why despite playing a wrestler this time around, he still wants that one scene where girls actually look at him. When the conversation turned to whether producers now have an unspoken mandate for Avinash Tiwary to take his shirt off, the actor pushed back, only to be gently corrected by his own co-star. Avinash initially insisted he had gone shirtless in only two films, at which point ‘Ginny Weds Sunny 2’ co-star Medha Shankar reminded him of ‘Madgaon Express’. “That’s three films, then,” Avinash agreed with a laugh.But Tiwary was quick to add important context. “None of them was shown with a desirability factor. Even in O’Romeo, it was a macho thing.” In ‘Ginny Weds Sunny 2’, his character Sunny is a pehelwan, an Indian wrestler and the shirtless moment comes in the akhara, firmly in the context of sport and strength rather than romance or glamour.

Despite three films featuring shirtless scenes and a reputation as one of Bollywood’s more physically transformed actors in recent years, Avinash Tiwary says the female attention has been modest.“I think I got more (social media) DMs from men for that than from women. All the gym bros said, ‘Nice body, bro!'”When asked whether the female attention was more forthcoming for a romantic film like ‘Laila Majnu’, Avinash laughed and said, “Yes, that one where the poor boy did not have one muscle.”Tiwary is not complaining but he does have a wish. “In this one, he is a pehelwan, so there is a shirtless scene in the akhara. But now I feel I want to do one just for desirability. I want to have a scene where I come out, get into a pool, come out and have girls look at me.”
