World’s hottest cities: India transforms into a scorching furnace with cities shockingly hitting 46°C

At present, the Indian heatwave continues in a persistent and strong manner, with multiple cities experiencing extremely hot weather all at once. Around ten cities have attained a temperature of 46 degrees Celsius and fall among the hottest in the world right now. The heat wave seems localised to the state of Uttar Pradesh and the neighbouring areas, indicating that there could be a wider geographic influence rather than random surges. There are no indications of rain in the weather forecast, and the skies remain sunny and cloud-free, which helps maintain consistent warming throughout the day.According to AQI as of 27 April 2026, India is currently experiencing a sustained period of intense heat, with multiple cities recording extreme temperatures at the same time. Check below how the current real-time data of the world’s hottest cities looks.

World’s hottest cities: Extreme heat in India turns cities into scorching hotspots

Banda

Banda is located in the Bundelkhand area, which is characterized by its dry soil and scanty vegetation. This helps in fast heating due to the hot summer season in this particular region. As the air contains little moisture, there is increased solar radiation, leading to high temperatures.

Fatehpur

Fatehpur is located in the middle Gangetic plain region, where land warming is quite significant even during long periods of dryness. This area generally receives fair weather conditions in April and May, facilitating consistent warming. With no clouds or precipitation systems, the temperatures stay high all day long. Additionally, the winds blowing in this area bring warm air.

Etawah

Etawah is subject to influences from the semi-arid climate, which results in scorching heat in the summer. The landscape in Etawah has a high efficiency rate when it comes to absorbing heat. It can also retain this heat well, especially during the hot and sunny days of the summer season.

Bindki

Bindki shares the same climatic features as a result of its inland location. There are no huge water bodies nearby, which results in a lack of temperature regulation. This implies that temperatures rise rapidly during the day and fall slowly at night. The weather remains clear and consistent, leading to sustained high temperatures.

Auraiya

Auraiya often records sharp temperature increases during prolonged dry weather. The region’s flat terrain allows uninterrupted solar radiation throughout the day. When combined with low humidity and minimal cloud cover, this leads to rapid heating. Such conditions are typical during heatwave phases across northern India.

Moradabad

Moradabad, located in the northern plains, can also experience extreme heat during strong heatwave conditions. Despite being further north, it is still affected by dry continental air masses. These conditions reduce cooling effects and allow temperatures to rise significantly during the daytime.

Kripalu

Kripalu Dham Mangarh is situated in an area that receives prolonged sunlight exposure during summer months. The lack of significant weather disturbances allows temperatures to build steadily. With minimal cloud interference, solar radiation remains high throughout the day, contributing to sustained heat conditions.

Prayagraj

Prayagraj, also known as Allahabad, frequently records high temperatures due to its geographical setting. Located in the Indo-Gangetic plains, it experiences strong solar heating during summer. Dry winds and clear skies further enhance temperature rise, making it one of the hotter cities during heatwave periods.

Gohad

Gohad lies in central India, where continental heating effects are particularly strong. The region lacks coastal influence, which means temperatures can rise without moderation. Extended dry conditions and stable weather patterns often lead to sustained high temperatures during summer.

Bankura

Bankura represents eastern India in this list. Although the region can experience humidity, dry spells significantly increase temperature levels. When rainfall is absent and skies remain clear, heat builds rapidly. This results in conditions similar to those seen in central and northern regions during heatwave phases.

PIB-issued heatwave guidance

Guidelines have been issued by the India Meteorological Department, which is under the Ministry of Earth Science, via official communication issued by PIB. As per their report, the temperature in most of north-western, central, and peninsular India regions is between 40°C-44°C with some places recording higher figures than this. Many areas have seen a rise of around 5°C compared to normal temperatures. This means that heat stress has developed in these regions. The forecast suggests heatwave formation in parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and parts of central India. The coastal areas will witness conditions with hot-humid weather, while the northern plains will experience warm nights.Avoid exposure to the sun between noon and late afternoon. Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Wear loose-fitting cotton clothes to minimize the heat stress. Avoid strenuous activities when there is excessive heat outside. This requires special care to be taken by children, older people, and sick people. The IMD has said that timely information is essential to take proper precautions in order to prevent heatstroke and heat exhaustion from prevailing in these conditions that are going to prevail in the coming days.
