Mumbai vs Delhi: Why this Canadian traveller rated one city

When travel vloggers Steve and Ivana shared their comparison of Mumbai and Delhi, they didn’t just review destinations; but touched a nerve. The duo’s blunt “100 to 0” verdict in favor of Mumbai as a tourist experience has since triggered debate and reflection among Indian viewers. But beyond everything, it is a story of Canadian travellers talking about how cities feel, not just how they look. The video starts with a strong statement, “Mumbai beats Delhi by a score of 100 to 0” and further in the Instagram reel, he also explains his reasons. His verdict about Mumbai“In Mumbai, nobody even cares that I am here but in Delhi I was a magnet”. Walking through Mumbai’s historic streets, Steve shared a personal experience that many seasoned travellers, especially those from other countries, recognize but rarely share so clearly and bluntly: the comfort of anonymity!“Mumbai’s energy is wild,” he says in the reel. He accepts that the sound of horn is disturbing and the crowd is dense, yet there’s freedom. He says, “As a tourist, you feel invisible…not one person has bothered me.” His wife Ivana agrees and her excitement can be heard from behind the camera. For the couple, Mumbai offered a “fly-on-the-wall experience,” which is rare to rate. Steve further notes, the architecture in Mumbai, amazing. This is actually a British area of Mumbai compared to before where we were in a Portuguese area. The beauty lies in the city’s visible architectural contrasts. From Portuguese-influenced neighborhoods to British-era buildings, the transformation is simply an experience. Though he admits he wouldn’t necessarily want to live in Mumbai. “It is a huge city… the honking horns are crazy,” he says in the video pointing out to a microphone to manage the noise. His verdict about DelhiDelhi is intense, and impossible to ignore. But the couple’s experience in Delhi was totally opposite. “In Delhi, I was like a magnet. Everyone was swarming around and bothering me.”It’s a fact that Delhi and Mumbai are two completely different cities in terms of social. It’s a city where interactions are more direct and strangers more observant. For many, it can be overwhelming. Steve’s reaction shows a common divide in travel psychology: some visitors seek engagement, while others prefer distance and anonymity. The experience differs from person to person. The comparison is quite subjective. Mumbai’s “indifference” felt like freedom, but for many, it might feel isolating and rude. Delhi’s “intensity” felt overwhelming, but many travellers enjoy that kind of reaction and human interaction which is important for travellers. For many Indians, Mumbai and Delhi or any city for that matter are their identities. And perhaps that’s the real story, not that one city “won,” but that each offered a completely different way of being a traveller.
