Man shoots illegal immigrant 10 times while protecting family of eight during attempted carjacking in Texas

A man identified by investigators as an undocumented immigrant from Mexico was shot dead in Texas after attempting to hijack a car carrying a father’s family, including several children. The suspect was named as 30-year-old Jose Ramirez and was killed on Sunday afternoon in Dallas, according to Fox 4 Dallas.Ramirez had caused a crash involving two vehicles at about 3.30pm before fleeing towards a nearby petrol station and attempting to steal multiple cars by force.Police said he eventually approached a white Chevrolet Impala parked outside a convenience store, where a father was sitting in the driver’s seat with family members inside the vehicle.Authorities said “several children and two adult females” were in the car at the time.Surveillance footage obtained by Fox 4 Dallas reportedly showed Ramirez confronting the driver and trying to take control of the vehicle. A struggle then broke out between the two men as members of the family, including a young boy, rushed out of the car and ran to safety.During the confrontation, the father pulled out a firearm and shot Ramirez more than 10 times. Ramirez was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.Police said the father remained at the scene after the shooting, cooperated fully with investigators and handed over his weapon to officers. Garland police said the man is not expected to face criminal charges and counted the incident as self defence.Ramirez was a Mexican national living in US illegally and was not a resident of Garland. It remains unclear when or where he entered the country. The incident reignited debate over illegal immigration and self-defence laws in US, particularly in Texas, where firearm ownership and stand-your-ground protections remain politically sensitive issues.
