'They don't look to hit sixes': Sunil Gavaskar slams KL Rahul and Nissanka's defensive approach against KKR

NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came down heavily on Delhi Capitals batters and criticized them for their lack of intent in their IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday.“They don’t look to hit sixes,” Gavaskar said in the TV commentary during the match, questioning DC’s intent in powerplay.DC openers KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka managed only two sixes in the first six overs, both of them coming from Nissanka. Kartik had Rahul caught at mid-on by Cameron Green. Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bowl against Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League match here on Friday.KKR are unchanged from their last game, while DC made two changes bringing in Mukesh Kumar and Vipraj Nigam in place of T Natarajan and Karun Nair.Delhi Capitals started their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign well but have since hit a rough patch, losing four of their last five games. With the playoff battle intensifying, they go into today’s match in a must-win situation, currently sitting seventh on the points table with four victories from 10 matches.Kolkata Knight Riders are also placed precariously, despite winning their last three games. They are eighth on the points table and will be aiming to continue their winning momentum to steady their campaign and climb the standings.
