'It is simple for us': Ruturaj Gaikwad lays out CSK’ playoff equation after LSG defeat

Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that Chennai Super Kings now face a straightforward but high-pressure equation in IPL 2026 following their seven-wicket defeat to Lucknow Super Giants. The loss left CSK in sixth position on the points table with six wins and six defeats from 12 matches, significantly complicating their playoff qualification hopes. Chennai now likely need to win both of their remaining league matches, while also keeping a close eye on Net Run Rate, to stay alive in the race for the top four.Speaking after the match during the post-match presentation, Gaikwad remained calm despite the setback and insisted that the qualification scenario is “simple” for his side going forward.”Well, first challenge is getting to Chennai. It’s a long flight. After that, just make sure we comeback and improve what are the areas we need to improve and yes, try and adapt and assess the conditions as quickly as possible and it is a simple calculation for us. Win each and every game for how much ever games we play. So I think nothing simple. I mean, it is simple, nothing complicated. So quite easy here on for us. Nothing to worry about. Just make sure we have a good day. Make it count whoever has a good day and hope that we hope that we turn the things around” Gaikwad Said.

Lucknow outclassed Chennai

Chennai Super Kings suffered a major setback in their playoff push after a seven-wicket defeat to Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium.Playing his first match of IPL 2026, left-arm pacer Akash Singh starred for LSG with figures of 3/26, dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel using sharp short-pitched bowling on a lively surface. CSK struggled early and managed only 37/2 in the powerplay.Despite a fighting 71 off 42 balls from Kartik Sharma, CSK could not post enough pressure on Lucknow. In reply, Australian openers Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis dominated the chase with a blistering 135-run opening stand in just 11.4 overs. Marsh smashed 90 off 38 balls, including four consecutive sixes off Anshul Kamboj in a brutal over that effectively sealed the contest.Nicholas Pooran later finished the chase in the 17th over as LSG comfortably completed the victory.
