NEW DELHI: South African batter Dewald Brevis has revealed how a simple piece of advice from MS Dhoni has stayed with him since his very first IPL season in 2022. Brevis, who joined Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 as a replacement player, said Dhoni taught him the difference between confidence and overconfidence, something he still follows today.“One of the best advices I got from MS (Dhoni) was my first year actually of IPL, and I wasn’t yet at Chennai, but he told me ‘you get two sides, you get overconfidence and confidence, and just be more on the side of confidence.’ And that’s been the one piece of advice that really stuck with me from him,” Brevis told news agency ANI.Brevis also spoke highly of Dhoni’s calm nature and humility, saying he has learned a lot just by watching the CSK legend closely during training sessions and team interactions.“Whenever I’ve been in the environment where he is and just seeing how he does his things and the way he lives, the person he is, he’s just being himself,” Brevis said while adding that Dhoni’s experience and knowledge make him someone every young player looks up to.Dhoni has not played for CSK in IPL 2026 so far due to a calf injury, but Brevis admitted the squad still benefits from his presence around the team. “And it’s amazing to have him… I wish he could have played, like I think a lot of people wish that,” he added.Brevis called joining CSK as a replacement player one of the best decisions of his career. He said the love from fans and the franchise has made his journey special.“It’s been the best decision ever to come as that replacement player to Chennai,” Brevis said, adding that he has improved both as a player and person during his time with the franchise.
