Jofra Archer revealed how a blunt message from the Rajasthan Royals coaching staff helped transform his bowling after the England pacer starred in RR’s crucial 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians. Archer delivered a stunning all-round display at the Wankhede Stadium, smashing 32 off just 15 balls before returning brilliant figures of 3 for 17 to help Rajasthan Royals secure the final playoff spot in IPL 2026. Despite the match-winning performance, Archer insisted he does not believe this has been his best IPL season. “It comes out by mistake,” Archer joked about his gold chain popping out during celebrations. “I always try to tuck it back in.” “Don’t think it’s my best year, I have bowled a little bit better than this. Every time you take the ball you just try to bowl good areas. Some days you’re not going to get rewarded. Happy that we got rewarded on the day we needed to win.” The RR pacer then revealed the key tactical advice he received after the opening games of the season. “Coach’s instructions – after the first two games I was trying to bowl slower balls. And he said, I don’t care what you do, I don’t want any more pace-off from you. I’m just listening to the coach now.” According to Archer, sticking to high pace has helped simplify his plans. “Your margin for error is a bit bigger when you go pace-on. Sometimes you have to deal with a few edges, but more often than not it’s the safer option.” That approach completely dismantled Mumbai Indians early in the chase. Archer first removed Rohit Sharma for a duck with a superb outswinger before also dismissing Naman Dhir. He later returned to send back Hardik Pandya at a critical moment. Archer also admitted he was surprised to be promoted up the batting order after RR suffered a middle-order wobble. “I wasn’t expecting to bat so early. Because of the impact sub I hardly get to bat. When the coach said put the pads on, I was surprised. I’m glad I was able to contribute.” His explosive cameo alongside Ravindra Jadeja helped RR add 73 runs in the final five overs and push the total beyond 200. “Well I class myself an allrounder,” Archer said with a smile after contributing in both departments. Late in the game, Archer also briefly worried RR fans after slipping awkwardly while fielding. Asked about his fitness after the match, the fast bowler quickly reassured everyone. “I’m very good right now, touchwood.”
