From Zomato deliveries to a top Delhi B-school: Haryana man’s comeback story is going viral

Every now and then, a story comes along that quietly grabs attention not because it is dramatic, but because it feels real and familiar. A recent LinkedIn post from Haryana has done exactly that. It is a story about long struggle, small jobs, and eventually finding a way back into serious academic goals. What makes it stand out is the simple way the journey moves from daily survival work to admission in one of Delhi University’s well-known management institutes.

Life built around survival work

Girish Sharma shared his personal journey on LinkedIn, talking about a phase in life when stability mattered more than long-term dreams. He explained how things had changed over time and how ambition had taken a pause during that period.“Six years back, I had lost all my ambitions in the pursuit of daily survival,” he wrote.During those years, he worked as a Zomato delivery rider. Along with that, he also took up teaching jobs and other small work to support himself. Life was focused on managing everyday needs and responsibilities.

COVID period that shifted perspective

According to his post, the COVID period became an important turning point. It gave him time to pause and think about the direction he wanted to take in life.“COVID was a breather where I realized this is not something I want to continue in my life,” he said. This realization slowly helped him move back towards education and think about pursuing higher studies again.

Restarting the academic path

After deciding to go for an MBA, he began preparing for entrance exams like CAT. He mentioned that the early phase of preparation was not very clear, especially when it came to understanding the process of exams and interviews. He continued his preparation and appeared for CAT 2023, where he scored in a competitive percentile. This helped him get interview calls from multiple institutes. However, the results were mixed. Some institutes waitlisted him, some rejected him, and he also received one admission offer earlier, which he chose not to accept.Even after these outcomes, he continued preparing and did not stop his efforts.

Admission to FMS Delhi

After multiple attempts and continued preparation, he finally secured admission to the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, also known as FMS Delhi. It is considered one of the well-known management institutes in the capital. This marked an important step in his journey from handling survival jobs to entering a top business school.

Support system behind the journey

In his post, he also spoke about the people who supported him during this time. He credited mentors, friends, colleagues, and educators who played a role in his preparation journey.“There was a whole force of people – mentors, friends, and colleagues – who stood beside me throughout,” he wrote. He also thanked faculty members, coaching platforms, and interview mentors who helped him through different stages of preparation.

Message for aspirants

At the end of his LinkedIn post, he shared a simple message for others who are still working towards their goals.“If you’re somewhere in the middle of your own version of this, keep going,” he wrote. His journey has been widely shared online, with many people appreciating the steady effort behind moving from difficult phases of life to securing admission in a top management institute.Disclaimer: This article is based on a social media post shared publicly online.
