'I am a devotee of Lord Krishna, jail is the fifth abode,' says Vikram Bhatt after release from Udaipur prison
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, released from Udaipur jail after bail, expressed faith in Lord Krishna and the legal system, calling jail his “fifth abode.” He and wife Shwetambari face fraud charges over a Rs 47 crore film project. Bhatt denies misappropriation, claiming all transactions were transparent. The Supreme Court recently granted them regular bail.

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was granted bail from Central Jail and subsequently released. Upon his release, he visited a Shiva temple and bowed his head in reverence. Later on Friday, after stepping out of jail, Vikram Bhatt interacted with the media and shared his experience.

Vikram Bhatt talks about faith in truth

Vikram spoke to News18 and revealed, “I have spent two and a half months in jail. I was not only hopeful, but also completely confident that the law and order here, the truth will definitely come out. I made a friend in jail, who told me about the nature of the soil of Mewar. He told me that truth may be troubled in the soil of Mewar, but it cannot be defeated. I am leaving from here after applying the tilak of the same soil of Mewar, truth will always remain victorious here.”

Vikram Bhatt calls jail his fifth abode

Speaking about his two months and 11 days in jail, he said, “This is the fifth abode. I am a devotee of Lord Krishna. I lived in the very place where Lord Krishna was born. Understand that I am coming out twice as good as I was before. Like Lord Krishna, I have to fight a new battle.”The filmmaker further said, “I don’t want to say much about law and order. I have complete faith in the legal system of this country. Whatever justice is done will be in everyone’s interest.”

Supreme Court grants relief to Vikram Bhatt and wife

The Supreme Court has extended major relief to Vikram and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt in connection with a fraud case alleging large-scale financial irregularities. The couple has now been granted regular bail by the apex court. Earlier in the week, Shwetambari was given interim bail, and on Thursday, the court approved their plea for regular bail, marking a significant reprieve for both.

FIR filed against Vikram Bhatt in Udaipur

In November 2025, an FIR was filed in Udaipur against filmmaker Vikram and his wife for fraud related to a movie project. The complaint was made by Dr. Ajay Murdia from Indira IVF at the Bhupalpura police station. He said he made a deal with Vikram Bhatt’s company to make films and documentaries in memory of his late wife. But after he paid the money and signed a contract for four films, the company did not make the films and instead used the money wrongly.

Vikram Bhatt accused of misappropriating funds

According to the FIR, Vikram allegedly assured Dr. Murdia that if he invested an initial Rs 7 crore and later provided additional funds, they would be able to produce four films worth Rs 47 crore. However, Murdia claimed that the accused diverted over Rs 30 crore by making false promises. Police investigations revealed that fake bills and documents were used to misappropriate the funds. The Udaipur Police eventually arrested the Bhatts on December 7.

Vikram Bhatt denies allegations of fraud

Bhatt has refuted the allegations, stating that the police have been misinformed. He also said that he was not given any prior notice before discovering the FIR. In a statement to news agency ANI, Bhatt’s lawyer, Kamlesh Dave, claimed that the police acted solely on the FIR without considering supporting documents. “Every payment was made in the knowledge of both parties. There were no such fake or bogus bills. The agreement was done to make two films first and another two on rolling finance,” he claimed.

Rajasthan high court rejects Vikram Bhatt’s bail plea

In January, the Rajasthan High Court denied bail to Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt, prompting them to appeal to the Supreme Court. Earlier, the High Court had also dismissed Bhatt’s plea to quash the FIR, in which he argued that the matter was civil rather than criminal. However, the court observed that the case involved not just a breach of trust but also misappropriation of funds, and therefore directed that the police investigation should continue.
