The UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has partnered with 42 Abu Dhabi to launch a specialised Artificial Intelligence Hackathon aimed at creating technology-driven solutions to improve government services across key sectors. The initiative will bring together programmers, developers, entrepreneurs and young innovators to design AI-powered tools that can streamline processes and boost efficiency in energy, infrastructure, transport and housing services.Organisers said participants will work on practical solutions to real-world challenges facing the ministry, with a focus on projects that can improve service delivery, strengthen infrastructure sustainability and enhance quality of life across the UAE.The hackathon forms part of the ministry’s wider strategy to expand the use of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies within government operations while supporting the country’s digital transformation goals.Participants will compete in a collaborative environment guided by industry specialists and experts from both MoEI and 42 Abu Dhabi. Winning teams and standout projects will receive awards and incentives aimed at helping turn promising ideas into practical solutions.Eng Fahad Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector at MoEI, said the initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to building a government system powered by innovation and emerging technologies.“The AI Hackathon represents a practical platform for translating the UAE’s vision of building a government ecosystem driven by innovation and advanced technology,” he said.Al Hammadi added that the programme seeks to harness local talent and encourage the development of smart solutions that can strengthen public services while improving future readiness across multiple sectors.Fatima Foulathi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of 42 Abu Dhabi, said the event would provide participants with an opportunity to convert ideas into working prototypes capable of addressing real challenges. She said the hackathon also supports efforts to prepare a new generation of programmers and innovators who can apply AI technologies across a range of industries while reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leader in digital innovation.According to organisers, the initiative is designed to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in government services and support the UAE’s broader ambition to remain at the forefront of technological advancement and digital transformation.
