Anant Chaturdashi 2026 will be celebrated on Friday, September 25. The festival honours Lord Vishnu in his Anant form. Devotees observe the vrat, perform Vishnu Puja, and tie the sacred Anant Sutra with 14 knots. This day also marks the end of Ganeshotsav celebrations with Ganesh Visarjan. The food rules are very important in Anant Chaturdashi Vrat. However, the fasting method can vary by family and region. Some devotees eat only fruits throughout the day, while others keep a one-meal fast after the puja.

Anant Chaturdashi 2026 Date and Tithi

As per the Hindu Panchang, the festival will be celebrated on September 25.Chaturdashi Tithi starts around 11:18 PM on September 24 and ends around 11:06 PM on September 25 for New Delhi. The vrat will be observed on September 25, as Chaturdashi falls at sunrise.

What To Eat During Anant Chaturdashi Vrat?

During the Phalahar fast, devotees can take fresh fruits, milk, nuts and fasting preparations.Bananas, apples, coconut and seasonal fruits are often served. Milk and homemade yoghurt may be taken according to family tradition. Some families make sabudana, makhana or food items using fasting flours. Most food is simply prepared and freshly cooked. But Anant Chaturdashi is not like a traditional Ekadashi fast. The Narada Purana mentions Anant Vrat, and it involves eating only one meal and offering something made from wheat flour, ghee, and sugar. So this fast is not a blanket prescription against all grains.

Things NOT To Do During Fast?

Traditionally, devotees avoid meat, alcohol, and food prepared with onion or garlic during the vrat.Rich, heavily spiced, or heavy meals are also generally avoided before worship. Strict fruit-based fast observers may avoid regular grains and regular salt till the vrat is over. Others may follow a one-meal tradition of a simple vegetarian meal. The main thing is to use one tried-and-true method and not to mix and match different fasting rules without understanding them.

What to Offer to Lord Vishnu?

Anant Chaturdashi Puja has special significance of offering food.In many regional traditions, devotees make homemade sweets such as poori, kheer, halwa and others.Number 14 is special because Anant Sutra have 14 knots. Therefore, some families make 14 pooris or offer them in groups of 14.Narada Purana says that a preparation of wheat flour is offered to Lord Anant before the devotee takes a moderate meal.Fruits and other Satvik food items may also be offered, as per household custom.

How to Observe Anant Chaturdashi Vrat

This fast is generally observed after the worship of Lord Vishnu and the prescribed rituals.Start with Anant Puja and listen to the Anant Chaturdashi Vrat Katha. Offer the prepared bhog and worship the Janeu before tying it as per family tradition.Once the puja is over, distribute prasad and have a simple meal if your family observes the one-meal vrat. Some continue the fast until the following morning. In such homes, Parana is carried out according to established custom. There is no single Parana time for all Anant Chaturdashi celebrations. The right way depends on whether the devotee follows Phalahar, Ek-Bhukta or another traditional form of the vrat.
