This day is regarded as one of the most sacred. In Hinduism, Akshaya Tritiya is an extremely propitious day. Akshaya means eternal, which lasts forever and Tritiya signifies the third day of Shukla Paksha. People, who engage in fortunate activities on this day are believed to be eternal. People engage in religious activities, start new businesses, get jobs, and do Griha pravesh. Purchasing gold, silver, and jewels on this day is seen to be lucky and to bring prosperity, success, and good fortune into one’s life. According to Hindu scriptures, it is believed that it was the sacred day when Pandavas received the Akshya Patra (the vessel that provides the unlimited food) from Lord Krishna. Hindu scriptures states that on this auspicious day, the sixth form of Lord Vishnu incarnated on this earth. The day is celebrated as Parashuram Jayanti. People offer prayers to Lord Vishnu with devotion and purity.

Particularly for marriages, engagements, and other investments, this day is thought to be auspicious for fresh starts. In Hindu culture, Akshaya Tritiya is regarded as a lucky day that symbolizes boundless wealth and prosperity. On this day people offer prayers to God of wealth – Lord Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi. Decorate temples and perform special pujas are the main part of this festival. In addition, some people organize food stalls to feed the underprivileged and needy people.
