Following its impressive reception at the Toronto Film Festival, Anurag Kashyap’s much-talked-about project ‘Bandar’, starring Bobby Deol, is gearing up for a worldwide release. Meanwhile, fans on social media are eagerly speculating about the film’s official release date.
‘Bandar’ release date and box office lineup
As reported by Hindustan Times, the film is slated to hit theatres on May 22, 2026. In India, ‘Bandar’ will release alongside Milap Zaveri’s ‘Tera Yaar Hoon Main’, featuring Aman Indra Kumar, Akanksha Sharma, and Paresh Rawal. However, since both films belong to distinctly different genres, a box office clash seems unlikely.

Alongside Bobby, the film features a powerful ensemble cast that includes Sanya Malhotra, Raj B Shetty, Jitendra Joshi, Sapna Pabbi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Riddhi Sen, and Nagesh Bhosle. Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and supported by Zee Studios, the movie is based on an unpublished story by Anurag Kashyap. Notably, Sudip Sharma is the creator of acclaimed web series such as ‘Paatal Lok’ and ‘Kohrra’. The duo has previously teamed up for ‘Udta Punjab’, which was produced by Anurag Kashyap.
‘Bandar’ plot and story details
The film tells the story of Samar, a former TV star played by Bobby. Samar’s fame is fading, but he’s happy in his new relationship with a young woman named Khushi. Things change when his ex, Gayatri, tries to come back into his life. Instead of talking to her, Samar blocks her and cuts all contact. However, his world turns upside down when Gayatri accuses him of rape, and he is arrested. He then faces a corrupt legal system determined to keep him in jail.
‘Bandar’ as Anurag Kashyap and Bobby Deol’s next big release
With ‘Bandar’, Anurag Kashyap will have his second big release this year. His 2023 thriller ‘Kennedy’ was finally released for Indian viewers on Zee5 on February 20. For Bobby, ‘Bandar’ adds another strong film to his recent list, which includes big hits like ‘Animal’ and ‘Kanguva’. He also has two more major films coming in 2026, ‘Jana Nayagan’, Vijay’s last film, and ‘Alpha’, also starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. However, the release dates for both films are still unconfirmed.
