Barron Trump turns 20: Twenty things you never knew about the most mysterious Trump

The president’s youngest son marks his birthday on 20 March 2026. Here is what we know about the 6-foot-7 NYU sophomore who has spent his whole life in the spotlight, and mostly managed to avoid it. Barron William Trump was born on 20 March 2006, the fifth child of Donald Trump and the first and only child of Melania Trump. He has spent his entire childhood and adolescence as one of the most watched young people in America, first as the son of a reality television mogul and real estate billionaire, then as a White House resident, and now as the son of a sitting president for the second time. He turns 20 today, and the occasion has already drawn notice beyond the family: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, visiting President Trump in the Oval Office on 19 March, offered the birthday boy an unsolicited review. “I know he has grown up so much into a very tall, good-looking gentleman,” Takaichi said through a translator. “As I see you Donald, it is very clear where he got it, of course, from his parents, there’s no doubt about it.”How Barron himself is marking the day remains unknown, the first lady’s office declined to comment on any celebrations, though President Trump is scheduled to travel to Mar-a-Lago on the evening of 20 March. He has said almost nothing publicly in two decades of public life. People remain fascinated regardless. As he turns 20 today, here are 20 things you might not know about him.1. His father almost changed his name at the last minute Donald Trump had always loved the name Barron but had never used it for any of his previous four children. He proposed it to Melania, who embraced it immediately, and then Trump got cold feet. “I gave the idea to Melania and then I was going to take it away at the very end,” he recalled on The Oprah Winfrey Show, “and she said, ‘You can’t take it away! I’ve been calling him Barron while he’s been in my stomach and you just can’t take it away!'” The name stayed. 2. His father skipped the delivery room Donald Trump was not present when Barron was born, explaining at the time that he thought it would be “easier” for Melania if he wasn’t there. Melania, for her part, told People that her eight-hour labour was “very, very easy.” Trump described the arrival to the magazine simply: “Everyone’s perfect. She’s really happy and it’s really great.” 3. He was introduced to the world as a future entrepreneur, at nine months old At a Hollywood Walk of Fame event in 2007, Donald Trump brought the infant Barron on stage and offered an early character assessment: “He’s strong, he’s smart, he’s tough, he’s vicious, he’s violent… all the ingredients you need to be an entrepreneur.” As his parents left the stage, baby Barron grabbed the microphone. Trump laughed: “Uh-oh, he won’t give up the mic.” 4. He is the tallest Trump Barron stands at 6 feet 7 inches, making him taller than his 6-foot-3 father and the tallest member of the Trump family. His height became something of a talking point at Donald Trump’s 2025 presidential inauguration, where Trump introduced him to a standing ovation with the quip: “Has anyone ever heard of him?” 5. He is the first presidential son in the White House since JFK Jr. Barron holds a small but notable place in history: he is the first son of a sitting US president to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1963. Most modern presidents have had daughters during their time in office, making Barron’s presence genuinely uncommon. 6. He grew up speaking multiple languages Melania raised Barron bilingual in English and Slovenian, with her immigrant parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, a significant presence in his upbringing. In a 2010 appearance on Larry King Live, Melania said Barron spoke three languages, though whether he has retained all of them into adulthood is unclear. 7. His mother calls him “Little Donald” Melania Trump’s nickname for her son has nothing to do with his looks and everything to do with his personality. “He is independent and opinionated and knows exactly what he wants,” she told Parenting.com when Barron was six. “Sometimes I call him little Donald. He is a mixture of us in looks, but his personality is why I call him little Donald.” 8. He took his entire fifth-grade class to Washington While still at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Barron organised a trip to Washington for his fifth-grade class. Around 80 students joined him, along with teachers and Secret Service agents, for a tour of the nation’s capital, a visit to the White House to meet his father, and an overnight stay before returning to New York. 9. He was hesitant about moving into the White House When Trump won the 2016 election, Barron, then nine years old, was reportedly nervous about leaving his life in New York behind. He loved his school and his friends. His father reassured him by explaining that being president meant he could help people, including children like Barron, which reportedly gave him some comfort. 10. Chelsea Clinton defended him publicly During his father’s first term, Barron became a target of online mockery, most notably in 2016 when Rosie O’Donnell shared a viral video suggesting he was autistic a claim Melania Trump later denied in her memoir, writing that the bullying caused her son “irreparable damage.” Chelsea Clinton was among those who came to his defence, writing on X: “It’s high time the media and everyone leave Barron Trump alone and let him have the private childhood he deserves.“ 11. He tested positive for Covid-19 in 2020 On 14 October 2020, Melania Trump confirmed that Barron had tested positive for Covid-19, following positive tests for both her and Donald. “My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive,” she wrote in a statement. “Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way, I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another.” 12. He helped his father win back the White House Barron has largely avoided politics, but his parents credit him with a meaningful role in Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. According to Melania, it was Barron who encouraged his father to appear on podcasts with hosts like Joe Rogan and Adin Ross, and to build a presence on TikTok, moves widely credited with helping Trump connect with younger voters. His father has since referred to him as “the king of the internet.” 13. A seconds-long clip of him speaking went viral Because Barron so rarely appears or speaks publicly, even the briefest moments generate disproportionate attention. A short clip of him saying “How are you? It’s very nice to see you” on election night in November 2024 spread rapidly across social media, with users genuinely astonished to hear his voice. Entertainment Tonight ran a segment on it, comparing it to a 2010 recording of him speaking as a child. 14. He is a passionate footballer Barron has played football since childhood, representing D.C. United’s under-12 team and training with other youth programmes. His enthusiasm for the sport was significant enough that Wayne Rooney once visited the White House for a football session with him. He has also been spotted wearing Arsenal kit publicly. 15. He plays FIFA and discussed consciousness with Elon Musk According to TMZ, Barron is an avid FIFA player who has asked fellow NYU classmates for their Discord usernames so they can play together online. At Thanksgiving at Mar-a-Lago, he was seated next to Elon Musk, who later revealed the two had spent the meal discussing “consciousness and video games” — a combination that generated considerable amusement online. 16. He is currently a sophomore at NYU’s Stern School of Business After graduating high school in 2024, Barron enrolled at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He began his first year commuting to NYU’s Manhattan campus from Trump Tower with Secret Service protection. By the start of his sophomore year in late 2025, he had transferred to NYU’s Washington D.C. campus, allowing him to live at the White House while continuing his studies. 17. He co-founded a drinks company Barron is a co-founder and listed director of Sollos Yerba Mate Inc., a beverage company incorporated in Florida and Delaware. He raised a reported $1 million to help launch the venture, which is set to launch in spring 2026 and operates near Mar-a-Lago. A source told People that Barron got involved through his father’s contacts, with several of his co-founders being young entrepreneurs including former classmates. 18. He is reportedly worth around $150 million, and counting Forbes assessed Barron’s net worth at approximately $150 million as of 2025, driven largely by cryptocurrency investments. It was Barron, Donald Trump revealed when launching his World Liberty Financial crypto company, who first introduced the family to digital assets. “He’s got four wallets or something, and I’m saying, ‘What is a wallet?'” Trump recalled with a laugh. Forbes further estimates that locked tokens not yet tradeable could, when they unlock, add as much as $525 million to his net worth, meaning Barron has already out-earned his mother Melania, whom the publication assessed at around $20 million for the year. 19. He has made only two public appearances since his father returned to office Despite being the son of the sitting president of the United States, Barron Trump has made just two public appearances since Donald Trump returned to the White House in January 2025. He has given no interviews, issued no statements, and maintained a level of privacy that is, by the standards of modern American political life, almost without precedent for someone in his position. 20. His next chapter is being watched closely A source close to the Trump family told People in January 2026 that Barron is “interested in business in general, developing properties, making money and being involved in successful projects.” A separate source told the magazine that he spent the summer of 2025 “in meetings with partners, developing tech projects and setting up deals.” He turns 20 today. He has not said a word about any of it.Bonus: He is apparently popular with the ladies, including the liberal onesIn December 2024, a source told People that Barron is “popular with the ladies” at NYU. “He’s tall and handsome,” the source said. “A lot of people seem to think he’s pretty attractive, yes, even liberal people like him.” It is, perhaps, the one area of American life where the partisan divide has yet to reach.
