Dubai Airports Update: CEO Paul Griffiths says “We will bounce back very quickly from the current situation” as operations stabilise after regional disruptions

Dubai is home to two of the busiest aviation hubs in the world, Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). In recent times, Dubai’s aviation sector has been through a lot amid the regional tensions. Despite all odds, the aviation in Dubai is in steady recovery. Authorities have confirmed that operations are gradually stabilising and passenger movement is improving across the UAE.In a recent update, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, did an interview with CNN. In the interview, he said, “We will bounce back very very quickly from the current situation” and that the aviation hub has recovered to around 40% to 45% of its normal traffic and over a million passengers travelled through Dubai International Airport (DXB) in the 17 days. The remarks were shared during a televised segment. It aimed at showing the pace at which Dubai’s aviation sector is rebounding amid regional developments. Airspace reopensThe General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed that air traffic operations have returned to normal gradually across the UAE, following a temporary precautionary closure. The short-term suspension was purely a safety measure wherein passenger and staff remain the priority. The heightened regional rift has affected flight schedules across prominent hubs in the UAE, including Dubai International Airport (DXB).CEO highlights strong recovery Dubai Airports CEO stated that they will not stop and that the expansion plans stay unchanged.“Our expansion plans at Dubai Airports have not changed and will not stop, and we will continue to strengthen Dubai’s leading position within the global aviation system,” he declared with confidence. Griffiths, during the interview, also highlighted the resilience of Dubai Airports during the whole ongoing episode. He explained that reaching 40% of normal traffic movement is a strong recovery indication. The CEO also stated that Dubai’s aviation infrastructure is well-versed to respond to crisis situations. It’s a fact that Dubai Airports maintained essential services during the heightened crises following all protocols and security. While temporary suspensions, delays, and diversions were reported, authorities were continously working with airlines to minimise travel disruption. Why air travel was disrupted The reason behind all the ongoing disruption is connected to geopolitical tensions in the region. It included security-related incidents leading to precautionary shutdowns, cancellations and airspace restrictions across the Gulf. However, the UAE airspace returning back to normal, flight operations are also gradually resuming. What travellers should knowDo not proceed to the airport without a confirmed ticketCheck with airline for flight status directly Arrive early Be ready for changesFor travellers, it signals improving conditions as the regional situation continues to evolve.
