KHDA Announcement: Dubai Indian Schools to Continue Distance Learning Until Academic Term Ends Amid Iran vs US-Israel War

Thousands of students studying in Indian curriculum schools across Dubai will continue learning from home until the end of the academic term after the emirate’s education regulator confirmed an extension of distance learning amid Iran-Israel-US war. The decision, announced by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), comes amid ongoing precautionary measures and wider adjustments to the UAE’s academic calendar. The move affects schools following Indian boards such as CBSE and ICSE, whose academic year traditionally runs from April to March. Instead of returning physically to classrooms, these institutions will now complete the remainder of the term online before beginning the next academic year in early April.

Why Dubai extended distance learning for Indian students

The decision is part of a broader precautionary approach taken by UAE authorities in response to the evolving regional security environment. In recent days, governments across the Gulf have taken steps aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining stability while daily life continues.Earlier in the week, the UAE temporarily shifted schools and universities nationwide to remote learning as tensions escalated in the region following missile interceptions and air-defence activity linked to the Iran–US–Israel conflict. The move allowed students and educators to stay safe while education continued without interruption.

Education authorities later decided to advance the spring break by one week, further reshaping the school calendar. Following that change, KHDA clarified that schools following the Indian academic cycle would simply finish the current term through online classes rather than reopening for a short physical period before the break.

When will Dubai schools reopen

KHDA has confirmed that the new academic year for these schools will begin on Monday, April 6, 2026, marking the start of the 2026–2027 academic cycle. For students, this means the current term will conclude remotely, followed by the scheduled spring break before they return to classrooms for the next academic year. Officials have also assured schools that support will be provided if institutions face operational or academic challenges during the transition.Dubai hosts one of the largest Indian expatriate student populations in the world. Dozens of schools across the emirate follow Indian education boards such as CBSE and ICSE, catering primarily to children of Indian professionals working in the Gulf. Institutions like Delhi Private School, Dubai and Credence High School, Dubai are part of this network of Indian curriculum schools that serve thousands of families.Since these schools follow a different academic cycle than many international schools in Dubai, beginning in April rather than September, the timing of disruptions can affect exam schedules, term completion and promotion to the next grade. Education authorities have emphasised that the remote-learning format will ensure academic continuity while maintaining student safety.

Parents adjust to a changing school calendar amid Iran-Israel-US war

The sudden shift to online learning and an early spring break has required many families to adapt quickly. Parents across the UAE have been reorganising work schedules, childcare arrangements and travel plans to accommodate the revised school calendar. Some families had originally planned holidays later in the month, while others welcomed the early break as an opportunity to stay home and avoid uncertainty while regional tensions remain high. Parents interviewed by UAE media said that although schedule changes can disrupt routines, most families prioritise safety and appreciate that education authorities are taking precautionary steps.

Digital classrooms become the norm again amid Iran-Israel-US war

For many UAE students, the return to online learning brings back memories of the pandemic years, when digital classrooms became the norm worldwide. Most schools in Dubai are well equipped for remote education, with established platforms for virtual classes, assignments, assessments and teacher-student interaction.

Schools have already been conducting online lessons since early March, making the transition smoother than it might otherwise have been. Experts say that the UAE’s investment in digital education infrastructure has helped ensure that academic learning can continue even during unexpected disruptions.

UAE authorities urge reliance on official information amid Iran-Israel-US war

Alongside the distance-learning decision, education authorities have reminded parents and students to rely only on official announcements from government channels and school administrations. In times of regional uncertainty, officials have warned against sharing unverified rumours online and encouraged the public to stay informed through trusted sources. For students in Dubai’s Indian schools, the immediate future will involve finishing lessons, assignments and term assessments online. After the early spring break, schools are expected to reopen in April for the start of the new academic year. While the current situation has brought temporary adjustments to the education system, authorities stress that the measures are precautionary and designed to ensure both safety and continuity. For many families in the UAE, the message is clear: learning continues—just from home, at least for now.
