Lajpat Nagar Double Murder: Teen Witnessed Mother’s Murder, Attacker Carried Longstanding Grudge

A chilling double murder shook Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar as a 17-year-old boy entered the gruesome sight of his mother stabbed to death. The shocking crime, which left the neighborhood reeling, was perpetrated by an attacker who carried a long-held grudge due to a previous scolding.

The victims, a 40-year-old woman named Neha Gupta and her domestic assistant Pushpa (age 36), were both found dead within their home in Lajpat Nagar-II. The suspected murderer, a 22-year-old man by the name of Rajiv, was familiar with the family and had once worked at a nearby store. Police state that Rajiv had come into the home under false pretenses with the intent of visiting and proceeded to kill, stabbing first Pushpa and then Neha.

Sadly, Neha’s teenage son came home from school during the attack. Eyewitnesses claim the boy stood in shock as he witnessed his mother being attacked. Without thinking, he tried to get away and locked himself in the bathroom. It is thought that this action could have saved his life because the killer did not try to break down the door and ran off a short while later.

Delhi Police officials said Rajiv had a long-standing grudge against Neha. She had allegedly reprimanded him for indecent behavior in front of her house a few months ago, scolding him publicly in the presence of others. Investigators say the humiliation brewed and was followed by a plan of revenge, which resulted in a murder plot.

A top police officer said, “It seems the accused had been waiting for the apt moment. He attacked the family when the husband was out and the son was at school. His intentions were clear and deliberate.”

CCTV cameras in the area helped track and identify the accused, who had attempted to escape from the city. He was arrested within 24 hours of the incident in a midnight raid in Haryana. Under interrogation, Rajiv is said to have admitted to having committed the crime and did not show any remorse, stating that he felt “disrespected” and had plotted the attack for weeks.

The only surviving teenage son is now receiving trauma care and counseling, assisted by his family members and police officers. His eyewitness report has also assisted investigators in reconstructing the timeline and motive of the attack.

The incident has also sent alarm bells ringing about public security and the psychological vulnerabilities that could turn into violent offenses. Locals and neighbors have called for increased vigilance against suspicious people and improved community policing.

As investigation goes on, the Lajpat Nagar community weeps over a senseless tragedy that shattered a family and brought to the fore the dangerous fallouts of unchecked rage and bitterness.
