Samantha Ruth Prabhu on gender bias; ‘Stop adjusting’, says 'Maa Inti Bangaram' actor; shares bold vision for women
Samantha Ruth Prabhu powerfully articulated the uphill battle women face in cinema, stating they must “fight for everything twice as hard.” She highlighted women’s tendency to adjust, sacrifice, and apologize excessively. Prabhu envisions a future where female-led stories are simply “stories,” and women on screen are complex individuals, not just plot devices.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently opened up about the challenges women face in the film industry as she shared a powerful and deeply personal perspective on gender dynamics.Speaking at an event hosted by The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor opened up on how women often have to put in extra effort just to be seen and heard. She said, “the film industry makes women ‘fight for everything twice as hard.'” She went on to explain how these struggles are often internalised and normalised over time.

Adjust, sacrifice and apologise

Elaborating further, Samantha pointed out the everyday compromises women make in their professional lives. She said, “We adjust our schedules, our opinions, our ambitions so everyone around us is comfortable. And we do it so cheerfully and willingly that we don’t even register it as a sacrifice.”She added, “Did you know women apologise nearly ten times more than men in the same situation? Imagine. Ten times more.”Samantha delivered a strong message: “Stop. I’m saying this with utmost humility and because I care. Stop. Because you deserve to take up the space you have earned. Credit is not a bad word. Ambition is not a character flaw. And taking a compliment with a simple thank you is not arrogance. It’s just the truth.”

Samantha Ruth Prabhu shares her vision

The actor also shared her long-term vision for women in cinema, “I dream of the day when we stop calling stories female-led as though that is a category, a risk, worse, an apology… and we just call them stories.”She continued, “I dream of the day when the women on screen are as contradictory and complicated and human as the women watching them. Not just someone’s wife. Or the reason the hero finds his courage. Just themselves. Fully.”Perhaps her most striking statement came when she added, “I dream of the day when a woman negotiating her contract is the most boring headline of the week. And I dream of the day when safety on set in every sense is not a one-off conversation but something this industry builds as a foundation.”

Lighter moments at ‘Maa Inti Bangaram‘ promotion

In another story, Samantha recently participated in a fun promotional activity for her upcoming film ‘Maa Inti Bangaram’.In a cheerful video, she was seen attempting to prepare Ugadi pachadi at home alongside director Nandini Reddy and anchor Suma Kanakala. The film ‘Maa Inti Bangaram’ is directed by Nandini Reddy and marks their second collaboration after ‘Oh! Baby’. Samantha is set to portray a strong and layered character in the drama. The teaser hints at a dual-shaded role, where she appears as a caring homemaker while also taking on action-packed moments. The film is scheduled for release on May 15, 2026.
