After celebrating Jasmine Crockett’s loss in the Democratic primary for the Texas Senate, the Republicans woke up to the victory of James Talarico and branded him as a bigger evil than Crockett. Old posts of Talarico that he made after the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in 2020 resurfaced, drawing major MAGA backlash. “I know we’re all laughing at Jasmine Crockett, but this James Talarico guy is pure evil. She was just ghetto. He, on the other hand, sounds super demonic. He is the definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” one wrote. “Did not have this guy James Talarico making Jasmine Crocket look like a voice of reason (relatively) in the Texas Dem senate primary. and yet here we are… and he WON… by a lot,” Donald Trump Jr commented. Even President Donald Trump commented on Talarico’s win as he posted on Truth Social: “We have an easy to beat, Radical Left Opponent, and we have to TOTALLY FOCUS on putting him away, quickly and decisively!” Trump said he would soon endorse either John Cornyn or Ken Paxton for the Republican primary.
But what did Talarico post in 2020?
“#AhmaudArbery is the latest American killed by the virus of racism. The virus kills our black neighbors if they’re jogging, playing music, sitting in church, selling CDs, or carrying a bag of Skittles..” Talarico posted. “White skin gives me and every white American immunity from the virus. But we spread it wherever we go—through our words, our actions, and our systems. We don’t have to be showing symptoms—like a white hood or a Confederate flag—to be contagious,” he added as he continued speaking about the virus of racism. But this part went viral making it look like as if Talarico was saying his white skin made him immune to some actual virus. “The only cure is diagnosing the virus within ourselves and taking dramatic actions to contain the spread. The first small step is proclaiming loudly and unequivocally that #BlackLivesMatter,” the post said. Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott said, “If this is a real Talarico post, he is toast. This is Tim Walz clone territory. He could win in Minnesota, but not in Texas.” Republican US Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma posted to X, “The future of the Democratic Party.”Talarico’s campaign reacted to the fresh trolling and said the Republicans are scared of Talarico. “John Cornyn, Ken Paxton, Greg Abbott and the billionaires who prop them up are scared of James Talarico for good reason: our campaign is building a movement poised to change the politics of this state and take power back for working people. While they lob stale attacks to mislead Texans, we are uniting the people of Texas to win in November,” the campaign said in a statement to Newsweek.
