7 Traditional weekly remedies for positivity and spiritual growth

In India, many families continue to observe the spiritual traditions handed down from one generation to the next. Many of these practices are related to the days of the week and are based on religious and cultural beliefs. They are meant for gratitude, inner peace, positivity and spiritual well-being. These are not scientific but rather customs that have been practiced for centuries and these rituals are ingrained in the culture of India and have become a major part of the spiritual practices for many people in India.

Monday: Seeking peace through Lord Shiva

On Monday Lord Shiva is worshipped. Devotees pour milk or water on Shiva Lingam along with their sincere prayers. In the past this method was believed to help people over barriers, find inner peace and solve emotional problems.

Tuesday: Prayers for strength and courage

Tuesday is for Lord Hanuman. Devotees usually light a red diya in front of the deity and pray for strength, courage and protection to face the hurdles of life. The ceremony is taken as evidence of fortitude and faith.

Wednesday: A traditional practice for Ppsitivity

The planets Mercury and Lord Krishna are the rulers of Wednesday. Tulsi leaves are traditionally offered to Krishna. The next five leaves of the purse are: It is believed that by performing this symbolic act one will receive positive energy, harmony and abundance.

Thursday: Charity as a path to prosperity

Thursday is ruled by the planet Jupiter (Guru) and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The devotees would give yellow food items such as turmeric and yellow lentils to the poor. In the past, it was considered a charitable act and would bring spiritual blessings, prosperity and wisdom.

Friday: Honouring Maa Lakshmi

Friday is a day to worship Maa Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of prosperity and wealth. Lighting a diya of pure ghee in front of the idol and reciting prayers of gratitude is believed by many families to be a successful way of attracting prosperity, harmony and abundance to their home.

Saturday: Worship of Shani Dev

Saturday is dedicated to Lord Shani. Mustard oil has been traditionally offered as a sign of devotion to relieve suffering and to pray for karmic balance, justice, and discipline. For practitioners, adversity becomes a symbol of faith.

Sunday: Beginning the day with Surya Dev

Sunday is devoted to worship of Sun God Surya Dev. It has been used to build confidence, energy and success in the past. Therefore, many devotees offer water (Arghya) to the rising sun and chant the mantra “Om Suryaya Namah” at dawn.

Good-will and faith

These weekly rituals are passed on through generations for religious scholars and still have cultural and spiritual significance in India. The believers feel that performing these basic acts of worship regularly, with sincerity and good intention, will make them more spiritual, mindful and disciplined. The customs stemmed from personal belief and cultural tradition, the experts said. They are not religious observances but are rather a supplement to practical effort, ethical behaviour and informed decision-making in everyday life.
