‘House Tour’ singer Sabrina Carpenter recently took over Coachella as one of the headliners for this season. While her set was one of the most talked-about events of the night, it was not at all smooth sailing. During one segment of the show, she mistook an Arabic chant of celebration for ‘yodelling’, and her subsequent comments sparked a lot of backlash online.

During one of her sets at Coachella 2026, the singer accidentally mistook an Arabic chant of celebration as ‘yodelling’, and commented about how she does not like it and is very confused about what is happening here. The comment quickly sparked backlash online after videos of the moment went viral.Taking to her social media account, Carpenter was quick to issue an apology following backlash over her comments at Coachella 2026. She wrote, “My apologies, I didn’t see this person with my eyes and couldn’t hear clearly. My reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm, and not ill-intended. could have handled it better! Now I know what a Zaghrouta is! I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out.”

What did Sabrina Carpenter say at Coachella?

During Coachella 2026, as per the videos shared online, a fan from the audience was heard reciting the Zaghrouta chant during Carpenter’s performance. As the singer sat behind her piano, she said into her mic, “I think I heard someone yodel. Is that what you’re doing? I don’t like it.”The audience member tried to explain and say that it is their culture, to which Carpenter got even more confused and replied by saying, “That’s your culture, is yodeling? Is this Burning Man? What’s going on? This is weird.” The fan had also clarified at the time that the chant was used as a call for celebration.

Singer faces backlash from netizens and fans alike

Following this, many attendees from the music festival shared clips of the ‘Manchild’ singer’s comments, which sparked a lot of backlash online. One fan commented about how she can be so insensitive, while another added that she should have been more careful about her words. Another netizen’s post read, “Sabrina saying that she doesn’t like a cultural Arabic cheer… this is so insensitive and Islamophobic. I am very disappointed in her.” Another comment posted, “Sabrina Carpenter just insulted the zalghouta in her Coachella show….. Mmmm ew ok.”Another person talked about the instance and posted, “Do I think Sabrina meant harm with her comment? no. Do I think it highlights how little white women are conscious of things outside of themselves? Yeah, a little.”
