'Dhurandhar 2' OTT release date: Makers share update amid Delhi High Court dispute with ‘Tridev’ song 'Oye Oye' copyright row
While ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ continues its thunderous box-office run since its theatrical release on March 19, 2026, the Delhi High Court has declined an immediate injunction against the Ranveer Singh-starrer in a copyright dispute over ‘Tridev’ rights, but with a catch. B62 Studios has officially informed the court that the Rs. 1,700 crore blockbuster will not arrive on any digital platform before mid-May 2026. Read on to learn more about the legal battle between Trimurti Films and the producers, the ‘Oye Oye’ song controversy, and the court’s order on revenue tracking.

The Delhi High Court has denied an immediate injunction against Aditya Dhar directed and Ranveer Singh starrer, ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’ in a copyright dispute involving Trimurti Films and B62 Studios. While the court declined to stall the film’s distribution, it has passed a significant order directing the producers to maintain comprehensive financial records of all earnings generated from the film to protect future legal interests.Dhurandhar 2 Review

Court refuses immediate restraint on ‘Dhurandhar 2’

According to Indian Express, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela heard a suit filed by Trimurti Films Private Limited against B62 Studios Private Limited and others, including Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited. The plaintiff sought an ex-parte ad-interim injunction, alleging that ‘Dhurandhar 2’ infringes upon intellectual property rights linked to the 1989 film ‘Tridev’.However, the court found no immediate grounds for a total halt. In its order dated April 9, the court stated, “Having regard to the fact that the statement has already been tendered on behalf of the defendant no.1/B62 Studios Private Limited, no further particular orders in respect of passing an interim injunction may be passed at this stage as on date.”

Mandatory maintenance of revenue accounts

While the film continues its historic theatrical run, the court has implemented a safeguard for the plaintiff’s potential financial claims. The defendants are now legally required to maintain a detailed ledger of all income sourced from the film’s exploitation since its launch on March 19. The court observed that these financial records could be summoned at a later stage, potentially in a sealed cover, to ensure that “financial equities can be safeguarded pending final adjudication.“

‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’ OTT release deferred to mid-May 2026

Notably, the court’s decision to withhold an injunction was the assurance with respect to the film’s digital debut. Senior Advocate Ravi Prakash, representing B62 Studios, informed the bench that there are no plans to release the film on any OTT platform before mid-May 2026. This statement mitigated the urgency of the plaintiff’s plea for a restraining order.

More about the conflict, ‘Tridev’ rights and documentation

The legal battle centers on whether ‘Dhurandhar 2’ unauthorizedly utilized content or music rights of the ‘Oye Oye’ song from the 1989 classic ‘Tridev’.Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing for Super Cassettes, presented a 1988 receipt of Rs. 7,000 allegedly issued by Trimurti’s founder, Gulshan Rai. Sibal argued that the plaintiff had suppressed material facts regarding prior assignments of rights, suggesting they had not approached the court with “clean hands.”Meanwhile the plaintiff’s lawyer, Senior Advocate Swathi Sukumar contested the authenticity of these decades-old documents, stating that appropriate instructions would be obtained to file a detailed response.

Mediation and future proceedings

In order to reach an amicable resolution for the conflict, the High Court has referred the matter to the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre. The mediation date has been stipulated as April 22, 2026 while the next court hearing is scheduled for May 6, 2026. Additionally, the joint registrar review is slated for July 13, 2026.The court has granted the defendants ten days to file their formal replies, with a subsequent three-day window for the plaintiff to file a rejoinder. This balanced legal approach allows the Rs. 1,700 crore (worldwide) blockbuster to continue its commercial journey while ensuring that legacy copyright claims are meticulously adjudicated.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
