Sanjay Dutt announced Khalnayak Returns, revealing the sequel idea originated during his jail term when 4,000 inmates supported it. He also credited Subhash Ghai and said he backed the project. The first look sparked nostalgia. The 1993 original, starring Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff, was very hugely successful hit.

Sanjay Dutt surprised fans on Friday by announcing his upcoming film ‘Khalnayak Returns’. The project revisits the iconic 1993 film ‘Khalnayak’, which featured Dutt alongside Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. With the sequel arriving over three decades later, excitement among fans is high. At the poster launch event in Mumbai, Dutt credited Subhash Ghai for making the original film’s journey possible. He also shared that the idea for the sequel first came to him during his time in jail in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. Reflecting on that phase, he said he had asked fellow inmates if they would be interested in a sequel, and around 4,000 of them responded enthusiastically.

The actor shared, “The journey of ‘Khalnayak’ has been long and without Subhash ji it wouldn’t have been possible. He is a legend and a man of entertainment. He will be part of this ‘Khalnayak’.” He went on to reveal that the idea for the sequel came to him during his time in jail. “In jail, I asked everyone around me, who would be interested in watching it. And the 4,000 inmates said they all would. I asked all of them to write one page about it (new ‘Khalnayak’ story), and it took me a while to read all 4,000 pages. When I came out on parole, I asked Subhash sir to go through it. After that, he said it should be made”.
