Karan Johar has witty take on losing his 'MET Virginity' at Met Gala: 'Miranda Priestly would find my outfit groundbreaking'
Karan Johar is thrilled to announce his debut at the Met Gala 2026, describing it as a dream come true and a milestone in the fashion world. He shared that the theme spoke to his soul and playfully likened the challenge of his extravagant outfit to Miranda Priestly’s iconic fashion standards from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’.

Karan Johar opened up about his Met Gala 2026 debut in a video shared by Diet Sabya, saying the event means far more to him than a red carpet appearance. The filmmaker and producer said attending the fashion world’s biggest night had long been on his “bucket list.” He also spoke about the year’s theme, his look, and why it felt personal to him. In his usual witty style, Johar brought up Miranda Priestly from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ while describing his outfit and the challenge of carrying it through the evening.Karan Johar talks Met Gala fashionIn the video shared by Diet Sabya, Johar began by saying, “Hi guys, so join me as I lose my MET Virginity.” He then explained why the Met Gala holds meaning for him as a fashion lover.“Met Gala is much more than just, as I said, a red carpet or an event. It’s something that I believe is very crucial and important to the world of fashion,” Johar said.He added that the event had been a longtime dream. “So, obviously, being on the red carpet for me has been like on my bucket list,” he said.Johar also said the theme connected with him strongly. “And I love the fact that I’m here this year with this theme, a theme that I so, so resonate with in so many ways,” he said.Karan Johar invokes Miranda PriestlyJohar also referenced ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ while talking about his Met Gala look. “I think Miranda Priestly in her own words would find my outfit,” he said, before adding, “I don’t know about her nod of approval, but I think she would definitely find it groundbreaking.”He clarified the joke by adding, “And not in the way she describes florals in spring.”Johar said wearing the outfit through the evening would take effort. “That itself is going to be a challenge and a battle,” he said.He also spoke about what he planned to do once he finished walking the carpet. “So, once I’m inside, then I just want to eventually, after the glory of this beautiful garment is shown on the carpet, I would like to hang it in the troubleshooting room is what I believe it’s called,” he said.Johar added that the inside look was easier to manage. “Once I’m done with it, the inside is much more comfortable,” he said. After the carpet, Johar said he planned to hang out, meet people, have a drink and enjoy the evening.
