Rain in Raipur has thrown the IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders into uncertainty, with a potential washout now looming large ahead of the contest. If the match is abandoned without a result, it would have very different implications for both sides in the playoff race. For RCB, a no-result would effectively be another step forward in their push towards qualification. They would move to 15 points from 12 matches and retain their second position on the table. With 14 points from 11 games so far and an impressive net run rate of +1.103, RCB have been one of the most consistent sides this season. A washout would keep them firmly in the top-two mix and significantly strengthen their path to the playoffs.

For KKR, however, the outcome would be far more damaging. They would move to 10 points from 11 games, and move to seventh place. With a net run rate of -0.169, their position would remain fragile despite a recent resurgence that saw them win four games on the bounce after a poor start to the season.KKR had earlier also been part of a rare tied contest against Punjab Kings that ended with both teams sharing points, a result that now adds to their tightly packed mid-table situation. In the broader context of their campaign, KKR’s early struggles, where they managed just one point from their first six matches, have left them little room for error. Even with their late revival, a washout here would leave them with a must-win scenario in their remaining three fixtures. Only a perfect finish would realistically take them to the 16-point mark required to stay in strong playoff contention.

Poll

How do you feel about RCB performance this season?

The build-up to this fixture had already carried strong narrative threads. RCB arrived at the top of the table after a last-ball win over Mumbai Indians, while KKR had rebuilt momentum through a four-match winning streak, inspired by Finn Allen’s explosive century and a more settled bowling unit led by Varun Chakaravarthy’s recent return to form, although his fitness remains a concern after picking up an injury in the previous game. For RCB, the focus had been on stabilising a slightly shaky top order in the absence of Phil Salt, with Virat Kohli’s recent twin ducks and middle-order inconsistencies putting added pressure on the batting unit.
