Kamal Haasan ditches private charter for economy class flight to ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ sequel, 'But Rajinikant always do this' fans react
Kamal Haasan made headlines as he flew economy class to the sets of the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ sequel, earning praise from makers Vyjayanthi Movies. The gesture came days after he wrote an open letter urging the film industry to cut production costs. The post received mixed reactions on social media.

Kamal Haasan has rejoined the sets of the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ sequel, directed by Nag Ashwin, and he has already made headlines even before the cameras started rolling. The legendary actor turned heads when he chose to skip the luxury travel that most stars of his stature are accustomed to and instead flew economy class. The down-to-earth gesture left a strong impression on the makers, with Vyjayanthi Movies publicly praising him for his simplicity.

Vyjayanthi Movies praise Kamal Haasan for his humility

Vyjayanthi Movies took to their X account to share a candid picture of Kamal Haasan seated in economy class, casually scrolling through his phone. The image quickly caught people’s attention, and the makers did not hold back in expressing their admiration. In the caption, they wrote, “Mr. @ikamalhaasan choosing to let go of private charters and luxury travel to take an economy flight and head straight to the shoot sets, at a time when the industry is navigating tough realities, this says everything about the legend he is. A first step towards greater things to happen in cinema.”

Social media users’ reactions to the post

The post got many reactions from people on social media, with some praising Kamal and others not finding it a big deal. “Good. Appreciate it. But Rajinikant always do this. A simplicity not by compulsion rather with lifestyle,” one user wrote. “What’s the big deal..He is just a normal human. Stop hyping everything,” said another. A third user asked, “What’s so great about this??” But many fans were full of praise for the actor, with one writing, “That’s Why he is our #ULAGANAYAGAN.” And one excited fan simply commented, “He is coming.”

Kamal Haasan played the antagonist in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’

Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi blockbuster ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, released in 2024, featured Kamal Haasan in the role of the antagonist. The film, which brought together an extraordinary ensemble cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, went on to become one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of all time.

Kamal Haasan urged the film industry to cut down on production costs

Just a few days before this, Kamal had written an open letter calling on the Indian film industry to rein in its rising production costs in the wake of the West Asia conflict. He wrote, “The burden cannot fall on those who labour the hardest. The correction we need is elsewhere: in avoidable waste, poor planning, inflated entourage culture, unnecessary foreign travel, production delays, and the growing disconnect between spending and purpose.“

Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan reunite for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’

Kamal had kicked off shooting for the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ sequel with Amitabh Bachchan earlier this year. Back in February, Amitabh gave fans a glimpse of their reunion by posting pictures of the two sharing a warm hug on his blog, writing, “meeting up with the great KAMAL HAASAN … we shall be working together after ages .. last in Giraftar .. Kalki 2 begun the work.”

Kamal Haasan to share screen with Rajinikanth in multiple upcoming projects

On the work front, Kamal is also set to share the screen with Rajinikanth in a yet-to-be-titled film helmed by ‘Jailer’ director Nelson Dilipkumar, as well as another project with the director duo Anbarivu. Adding to his busy schedule, Kamal is also producing a film starring Rajinikanth, directed by Cibi Chakaravathi, alongside Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Seyon’, which is being directed by Sivakumar Murugesan.
