'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' team dismisses Vashu Bhagnani’s song rights allegations: 'We urge the public to not pay heed'

The team of ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ has rejected producer Vashu Bhagnani’s allegations over the use of ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ and ‘Ishq Sona Hai’ in the upcoming David Dhawan film. The makers said the claims were baseless and accused Bhagnani of running a smear campaign before the film’s June 5 release. The dispute centers on songs linked to ‘Biwi No. 1’, the 1999 film produced by Bhagnani and directed by Dhawan.

‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ song row

According to ANI, producer Ramesh Taurani, Tips Films and the team of ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ issued an official statement in response to Bhagnani’s claims. ABP Live also reported the statement, in which the makers said, “Recently, a series of baseless allegations have been made against us by Mr. Vashu Bhagnani. It is amply clear to us that this is a smear campaign driven by personal vendetta, intended to derail the release of our film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.”The makers also referred to their long association with Bhagnani. They said, “Our association with Mr. Bhagnani dates back to 1995, when we generously offered him a 50 percent partnership and a producer credit on a project for which we had laid out all the ground work. Coolie No. 1 went on to become a massive box office hit and gave Mr. Bhagnani a kick-start in the industry.”

‘Chunnari Chunnari’ and ‘Ishq Sona Hai’ rights

The team questioned Bhagnani’s legal route and said he chose to file a complaint in the Katihar court in Bihar, far from Mumbai, rather than open direct dialogue. The Indian Express earlier reported that the dispute involves the alleged unauthorized use of intellectual property connected to older films, including ‘Biwi No. 1′.The statement added, “We are deeply disheartened and disappointed by Mr. Bhagnani’s conduct. We urge the public to not pay heed to such targeted negativity. We maintain that we are the absolute and lawful owners of the songs Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai.”NDTV reported that Tips had earlier said it had taken legal steps, including relief from the Supreme Court of India on May 22, 2026. Bhagnani’s side said it planned to challenge that order. The makers said the matter is sub judice and added that this would be their only public statement for now. They ended by saying they had full faith in the legal system.
