‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’ has been rocking the headlines for its controversial content. Several petitions have been filed against the film, seeking a ban on the film’s release. Amidst the same, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted it a U/A 16+ certificate to the movie. However, the Censor Board has also recommended multiple edits. CBFC clears ‘The Kerala Story 2’ with 16 cuts amid ongoing controversy
According to the Bollywood Hungama report, ‘The Kerala Story 2’ has undergone several revisions as directed by the CBFC, including chopping down the visuals, modification in dialogue, and the addition of an extended disclaimer.As per the report, the CBFC directed the makers to make around 16 cuts or modifications in the film before certification.The most significant modifications included intimate and violent scenes. A source told the publication, “The kissing visuals and rape scenes were reduced by 50%. A lip-lock scene was asked to be trimmed by 7 seconds. The rape scenes were shortened by 20 seconds.”Not just that, the CBFC also ordered the makers to reduce a scene by 2 seconds where a woman gets slapped and a sequence in which a female character’s head is being hit.As per the insider of the web portal, “A scene where the house of the accused is being demolished with a bulldozer was asked to be modified.” The board has also asked to make changes in three dialogues and mute a word in the movie.
Disclaimer and documentation requirements
Apart from the edits in the movie, the CBFC also ordered to add a disclaimer stating that ‘The Kerala Story 2’ is based on true events. The board directed the makers to keep the disclaimer on the screen for around 2-3 minutes longer and add a voice-over as well.They were asked to submit a full script with dialogues and documents as proof on which the story is based. The makers had to submit a consent letter for casting a minor in the movie. After the changes were made and the requests were fulfilled, the CBFC granted the certification on February 16. As per the report, the final runtime stands at 131 minutes and 24 seconds (2 hours, 11 minutes, and 24 seconds).
