Who is Amos Yee? Controversial Singapore YouTuber assaulted by Yuji Itadori cosplayer outside anime convention
Controversial Singaporean YouTuber Amos Yee was reportedly assaulted outside the Doujima anime convention in Singapore by an 18-year-old dressed as Yuji Itadori. Videos online showed the cosplayer punching and kicking Yee during the altercation. The incident came after convention organisers banned Yee from entering the event. Following the attack, Yee blamed the organisers for escalating tensions and denied rumours accusing him of inappropriate behaviour at the venue.

Amos Yee is back in the headlines, and once again, controversy followed close behind. The 27-year-old Singaporean content creator was reportedly assaulted outside the Doujima anime convention at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre on May 9. Videos circulating online show a teenager dressed as Yuji Itadori from the anime series Jujutsu Kaisen punching and kicking Yee during a chaotic confrontation that quickly spread across social media. The incident reignited debate around Yee’s long and deeply divisive public image. While some online users condemned the physical attack, others pointed to the years of scandals that have surrounded the former child actor turned blogger and YouTuber. The clash outside the convention has now become one of the most discussed streamer-related controversies in Singapore this week.

Amos Yee’s controversial history continues to follow him

Before becoming a viral internet personality, Amos Yee worked as a child actor in Singapore. He later built a following online through provocative political and religious commentary. His criticism of Singapore’s former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and his videos mocking religion triggered multiple arrests in Singapore during the mid-2010s.In 2017, Yee moved to the United States and was granted political asylum. However, his situation worsened years later after authorities in Illinois charged him with grooming-related offences, solicitation, and possession of explicit material involving minors. He was sentenced to prison in 2021 and later released on parole before reportedly violating parole conditions. After being deported to Singapore in March 2026, he faced additional legal scrutiny tied to National Service obligations. That background heavily shaped public reaction to his attempted appearance at the Doujima convention. Organisers had already announced on Instagram that a “known problematic influencer” would not be allowed entry and said they were working to ban him from future events.

Despite the restriction, Yee still appeared near the convention venue and shared photos from outside the event. One post carried the caption:“Protect your kids.”Following the assault, Yee posted images of his injuries online and blamed the organisers for escalating tensions around his presence. He wrote: “Literally, if the organisers had not banned me. Likely I would just go in, browse stores, people will come up to take selfies, many people would look disgusted at me but fuck em. And that’s it, nice, pleasant day. Instead you ban me, which riled people up which lead to my attack”He also pushed back against rumours circulating online, stating:“Lmao, stupid rumors being spread around that I attacked the attacker first or that I was taking upskirt girl’s photos. There were ten thousand people there, and many of them were filming and stalking me. If I had done those things, there’d be evidence. Where’s the evidence?”According to reports, the 18-year-old cosplayer involved in the attack was later arrested for causing public nuisance.
