UPSC AIR 1 Anuj Agnihotri says, 'My parents worked even harder than me': What parents should know if they really want a successful child

When Anuj Agnohotri checked his results of the UPSC 2025 examination, he was in awe. The very first reaction he gave after finding out he has secured All India Rank 1 was shouting in excitement, “Papa maine UPSC mein top kar liya hai!” Every success story is the result of hard work and perseverance, and while all this certainly played a big role in Anuj’s journey, the doctor-turned-bureaucrat credits his family for his success. In an interview with Jhalko Rajasthan, Anuj Agnihotri spoke of the bond he shared with his mother during his preparation, calling her his “best friend.” Reflecting on the phase, the boy said he was “socially cut-off” during the time. However, the time he spent with his parents became his biggest source of comfort. Anuj recalled that whenever the three of them (Mom, dad and him) found time together, they made sure to enjoy the little moments, as he shared whatever he felt. Anuj Agnihotri talks about the emotional support he got from parents and says, “my parents worked even harder than me.” He adds that it was their hard work that has materialized as success today. He says that there are moments where one needs to rethink his decisions, and for him, in such times, his parents were there to support him.

Mother recalls son’s positive mindset during preparations

In a proud yet grounded tone, Anuj’s mother, Manju Agnihotri shared in an interview that as parents, they simply tried to create an environment where their son could study without distractions. “I only took care of his diet,” she said humbly. Recalling Anuj’s calm and positive mindset during the long UPSC preparation phase, she remembered him saying, “Doctor hoke patience na ho, toh doctor kaisa.”

This was Anuj Agnihotri’s success mantra

While speaking to Lallantop, Anuj Agnihotri gave two simple yet powerful tips for aspirants. According to him the biggest force that ignites motivation to clear UPSC is: Clarity. Secondly, he added that when an individual is clear about his goals, only then he follows a consistent routine.

Anuj Agnihotri’s refreshing advice

Reflecting on his own journey, Anuj revealed that he was the most disciplined during his first attempt, however, it was in the third attempt, when he stopped putting excessive pressure on himself and took things a little lightly, he was able achieve the success he desired. In another interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Anuj shared a refreshing perspective that success does not mean removing happiness and fun from life. “Along with studies, there should also be laughter, fun, movies, music and friends,” he said.
