Misty Copeland, who is a famous and well-known American Ballet Theatre dancer and has now retired, recently sat down for a panel discussion. During the event, the topic of Chalamet’s recent viral comments was brought up, to which Copeland had a few words of her own to share.Reported by PEOPLE, the dancer first addressed a collaboration post that was a part of the actor’s promo events for ‘Marty Supreme.’ Following that, she also added, “But I think that it’s important that we acknowledge that, yes, this is an art form that’s not ‘popular’ and a part of pop culture as movies are, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have enduring relevance in culture.”Misty Copeland on how opera and ballet remain to be relevant in today’s day and ageShe followed the conversation forward by adding that “There’s a reason that the opera and ballet have been around for over 400 years.” Copeland was also sure about another thing: that people often mistake popularity for something being “impactful”, which is not always the case. The dancer further added that the ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor owes his career as an actor to mediums such as ballet and opera. “I mean, he wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet and their relevance in that medium. So all of these mediums have a space and we shouldn’t be comparing them.”
