BAN vs NZ Live Score, 2nd T20I: Toss delayed due to rain

BAN vs NZ Live Score, 2nd T20I: The spotlight shifts back to Chattogram as Bangladesh take on New Zealand in the second T20I of the three-match series, with the hosts holding a 1-0 lead. After a confident chase in the opener, Bangladesh will look to seal the series, while New Zealand face a must-win situation to stay alive.

The first match set the tone for what promises to be a competitive contest. Tawhid Hridoy emerged as the hero with an unbeaten 51, guiding Bangladesh to a six-wicket win while chasing 183. His ability to control the chase under pressure has now made him a central figure heading into the second T20I.

Bangladesh’s batting unit showed depth and composure in the opener. Contributions from Parvez Hossain Emon and Shamim Hossain highlighted the team’s aggressive middle-order approach — something that could again be key on a surface that isn’t entirely batting-friendly.

Captain Litton Das will be particularly encouraged by how his side handled pressure in the chase. However, Bangladesh may still look for a stronger start from the top order, especially in the powerplay, to avoid early setbacks.

On the bowling front, Rishad Hossain proved to be a game-changer in the first T20I, breaking a crucial partnership with back-to-back wickets. His role will again be pivotal in the middle overs, especially against a New Zealand lineup that prefers to build through partnerships.

For New Zealand, the second T20I is about regrouping quickly. The visitors posted a strong 182 in the opener, thanks largely to half-centuries from Dane Cleaver and Katene Clarke. Their 88-run stand showed the batting potential within the squad, but the inability to finish stronger or defend the total exposed key gaps.

The bowling unit, led by Ish Sodhi, showed promise but lacked consistency. Sodhi’s variations troubled Bangladesh in the middle overs, but the lack of support from the pace attack allowed the hosts to regain momentum. Expect New Zealand to rethink their bowling combinations or execution strategies ahead of this crucial clash.

Stand-in captain Nick Kelly will also be looking for more intent in the death overs, both with the bat and ball. A stronger finish — whether setting or defending a target — could prove decisive.

Historically, New Zealand have dominated the head-to-head record, winning 15 out of 21 encounters. However, recent form suggests a more balanced contest. Bangladesh have a slightly better win percentage over the past year, reflecting their growing confidence in T20 cricket, especially in home conditions.

The pitch at the Bir Shrestho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium is expected to remain challenging, offering assistance to both spinners and batters who are willing to apply themselves. A total in the range of 170-185 could once again be competitive.

With Bangladesh aiming to clinch the series and New Zealand fighting to stay alive, the second T20I promises high intensity and tactical battles. All eyes will once again be on Tawhid Hridoy — can he deliver another match-winning performance, or will New Zealand find a way to bounce back?
