Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, has been cleared by the CBFC with a U/A 16+ rating after multiple cuts and modifications. The horror-comedy underwent removal of certain scenes, dialogues, and disclaimers. Following additional voluntary edits, the film’s runtime was reduced to 2 hours 44 minutes. Featuring an ensemble cast, it is set to release on April 17, 2026.

Akshay Kumar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film, ‘Bhooth Bangla’, this week. Ahead of the same, the Central Board of Film Certification has cleared the horror comedy with a few modifications. Reportedly, the makers of the movie completed the certification process well in advance to avoid any issues.

According to the Bollywood Hungama report, the Central Board of Film Certification has granted ‘Bhooth Bangla’ a U/A 16+ rating. However, the board also directed the producers to make a few changes in it. Reportedly, an obscenity was removed, which was incorporated in the movie. The Board also asked to replace the set of obscene words. Towards the end, the makers have been ordered to remove an obscene word in the subtitle of the film.An offensive remark about women in the first half needed to be changed. They also had to add warning notes for scenes involving religion and superstition.After all the changes were done, the film ‘Bhooth Bangla’ received its censor certificate on April 2. According to the certificate, the total length of the film is 2 hours, 54 minutes, and 57 seconds. A few days later, the filmmakers went back to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on their own and made additional cuts to the film. The CBFC approved these cuts on April 11. In total, 63 scenes were trimmed. Most of the cuts were small, just a second or a few seconds long. The biggest cut was 1 minute and 12 seconds, taken from a scene in the song ‘O Sundari’. Another 27 seconds were removed from the song ‘O Re O Sawariya’.

Directed by Priyadarshan, the film features Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mithila Palkar, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav, Rajesh Sharma, and Asrani. The movie will release in theaters on April 17, 2026.A denigrating reference to women in the first half was asked to be replaced. Finally, the makers were asked to include disclaimers for the religious and superstitious references in the film.Once these changes were made, the makers of Bhooth Bangla were handed over the censor certificate on April 2. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 174.57 minutes. In other words, Bhooth Bangla is 2 hours, 54 minutes and 57 seconds long. Incidentally, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to inform readers that the Akshay Kumar-starrer is expected to have a runtime of around 170 minutes.Meanwhile, a few days ago, the team of Bhooth Bangla once again approached the CBFC after they made voluntary cuts to the film. The CBFC accepted these cuts on April 11. The makers trimmed as many as 63 scenes. Some scenes were shortened by just 1 second or a few seconds. The maximum cut was of 72 seconds, that is, 1 minute and 12 seconds, when a scene from the song ‘O Sundari’ was deleted. 27 seconds were also removed from the song ‘O Re O Sawariya’.In this way, Bhooth Bangla’s duration came down by 10 minute and 5 seconds. The revised length is 164.52 minutes, that is, 2 hours 44 minutes and 52 seconds.
