Amavasya is the significant event that falls every month. The day is dedicated to honor forefathers and ancestors. People offer their sincere prayers to their ancestor and perform puja rituals to seek blessings. This month, Chaitra Amavasya will fall on March 18, 2026. This day is also known as New Moon day. This day marks the arrival of spring season and end of winter season. This day holds an immense religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. People get engaged in various religious practices such as taking a holy bath in ganga river, performing pitru tarpan, pitru puja and hawan in order to obtain blessings.

This is a crucial day for observing fast and performing puja rituals associated with ancestors. The day hods a great religious and spiritual significance in Hindu religion. The day is believed to Pitru dosha, negativity, sins and karmic dosha. People take holy bath in ganga river. Sun is transiting in Pisces zodiac sign. This is one of the most powerful days for cleansing karma, spiritual elevation and ancestral benefits. People can also offer prayers to their ancestors by carrying out rites related to pitru and departed souls.

Chaitra Amavasya 2026: Puja Rituals

1. Taking a holy dip in ganga river is one of the most rewarding ritual. 2. Offer water to the Lord Sun is considered meritorious. 3. One should light a diya near tulsi plant that brings benefic results. 4. Feed cows with rice, jaggery and chapati. 5. Its rewarding to feed ants and crows on this particular day. 6. Many people invite brahmins at home and feed them with sattvik food, give them clothes and shoes along with dakshina. 7. It is meritorious to light a mustard oil diya beneath the peepal tree along with black sesame seeds and urad dal. 8. Invite priest for pitru tarpan or pitru shanti puja at home.
