Chaitra Purnima is one of the most days in Hindu religion. The day holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. Purnima falls every month on 15th day of Shukla paksha. This month, Chaitra Purnima is going to occur on the very first day of April i.e., on April 1, 2026. On this auspicious day, devotees offer their sincere prayers to Lord Vishnu by performing Satyanarayan puja. This day is also known as Chaiti Punam.

Chaitra Purnima 2026: Date and Time

Purnima Tithi Begins – April 1, 2026 – 07:06 AMPurnima Tithi Ends – April 2, 2026 – 07:41 AMMoonrise timings on Purnima tithi – April 1, 2026, 06:06 PMAs we have mentioned above that Purnima tithi will start from 07:06 AM on April 1, 2026 so the Purnima fast will be broken on this day as the full moon will be visible on April 1.

Chaitra Purnima 2026: Significance

Purnima is the one of the most significant days in Hindu religion that falls on 15th day of Shukla Paksha every month. Purnima that falls in the month of Chaitra is also known as Chaitra Purnima. On this sacred day, devotees of Lord Vishnu observe fast from dawn to dusk dedicated to one of the forms of Lord Vishnu, Lord Satyanarayan and seek his blessings on this special day. It is believed that on during full moon night, the divine rays of moon falls on earth and people are advised to sit under the Full moon to seek the blessings of Moon God also. Purnima is considered an auspicious day to take a holy dip in Ganga river, chanting Lord Vishnu mantras, worshipping Moon God, and reciting satyanarayan katha.

Hanuman Jayanti on Chaitra Purnima 2026:

On Chaitra Purnima day, Hanuman Jayanti will also be celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across the country. The day marks the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman. People conduct puja, chant mantras organise Ramayana path, Sundar Path and visit Hanuman temple to seek blessings of Lord Hanuman.

Krishna Raas Leela on Chaitra Purnima 2026:

On this auspicious day, Lord Krishna is believed to have performed Raas with Radha and other gopis in Brij. Using his heavenly power (Yogmaya), Lord Shri Krishna danced with each of them throughout the entire night. Krishna and Radha Raasleela symbolize the unity of soul with the divine soul, and this day is celebrated with tremendous delight and enthusiasm in Mathura and Brij. In Mathura, Vrindavan, Brij, and other notable locations, a special Puja and Bhog are held on this day. Devotees must offer kheer to Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu on this auspicious day of Purnima and it is believed that one who worship Lord Vishnu with great devotion and dedication, he fulfill all the deisred wishes of the devotees.

Vaishakha month begins after Chaitra Purnima 2026:

Vaishakha month will begin after Chaitra Purnima, which is regarded as one of the most auspicious months to engage in all religious and spiritual pursuits. Ganga Snan is the first auspicious rite of Vaishakha month, and many Hindu devotees travel to Haridwar, Rishi Kesh, Prayagraj, and other locations to take a holy dip in the Ganga.

Chaitra Purnima 2026: Puja Rituals

1. People take a sacred plunge in the Ganga River after rising early in the morning.2. Devotees who can not visit any holy place, they can add few drops of gangajal in their bucket and take a holy bath at home.3. On this day, it is believed to be rewarding to offer Arghya (water) to Lord Surya. 4. Devotees observe satyanarayan vrat on this auspicious day and offer prayers to the lord.5. It is very impotant to worship the moon on Purnima day. Devotees can break their fast after giving the water to the Moon.6. It is meritorious to distribute food and clothes to the underprivileged.7. Some devotees even use trained priests to conduct hawan and satyanarayan puja at home, offering bhog prasad to everyone.
