CSK suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Lucknow Super Giants in their previous game, while SRH were hammered by Gujarat Titans by 87 runs. Yet both teams remain firmly in contention for the playoffs. Hyderabad currently hold the advantage with seven wins from 12 matches and sit third on the table, but another defeat could complicate their path to qualification.
Chennai, meanwhile, are fighting with their backs against the wall. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side has recovered admirably after losing their first three matches of the season, but now they need victories in both remaining games and favourable results elsewhere.
Historically, CSK have enjoyed dominance in this rivalry, winning 16 of the 24 meetings between the sides. However, SRH defeated Chennai earlier this season and will take confidence from that result heading into the high-pressure encounter at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
