CWG 2026: Glasgow restaurant deletes Instagram account after Lovlina Borgohain flags 'incorrect map' of India

NEW DELHI: A Glasgow-based Indian restaurant deleted its Instagram account after Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain pointed out that its logo and napkins showed an incorrect map of India. The incident happened after the Indian boxing team visited Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry to celebrate its historic Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign. India finished with a record 10 boxing medals – seven gold and three silver. During the dinner, Lovlina noticed that the map printed on the restaurant’s napkins and displayed outside the restaurant did not include India’s Northeast. A video of her raising the issue went viral on social media and drew criticism from many users.

Lovlina says she felt hurt

Lovlina, who is from Assam and won a silver medal in Glasgow, politely raised the issue with the restaurant management.“Please don’t take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that’s displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That’s all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much.”

Restaurant issues apology

Soon after the video surfaced, the restaurant issued a public apology and accepted its mistake. It also said the logo would be changed.“Mr Singh’s India, is very proud of our Indian heritage and ancestry, for almost 32 years we have served, for India and around the world.”“First and foremost, we would like to unequivocally apologise for the depiction of the wrong map of India. We will take immediate steps to correct this. Once again our sincere apologies, we never wanted to offend anyone rather wanted to serve with pride to Indian contingent.”The restaurant also thanked the Indian team for visiting after their successful campaign.“We will change the logo with proper map. It was our humble privilege and honour, that we served team India, after their fantastic, achievements in the Commonwealth Games. All athletes and guests thoroughly enjoyed their evening, these memories will last with us for India. Team Mr Singh India.”Shortly after issuing the apology, the restaurant’s Instagram account was deleted.

BFI chief says there was no confrontation

Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh, who was present at the restaurant, said the matter was handled peacefully.“There was no confrontation. It was an aberration and we pointed that out, me and Lovlina. They accepted their mistake and assured us that it will be corrected,” Singh told PTI.The restaurant has hosted several visiting sports teams and dignitaries over the years.
