David Schwimmer praises companies for pulling their sponsorship

On Monday, David Schwimmer took to Instagram to praise the companies that pulled their sponsorship at London’s Wireless Festival after Kanye West was revealed as headliner, stating that West still hasn’t properly atoned for his years of antisemitic comments and that his written apology “does not erase years of abuse.”The ‘Friends’ star made his stance clear, pointing to what he described as a lack of accountability from the rapper. Schwimmer wrote, “It’s great to see companies with moral clarity.” Adding that unlike Wireless and Festival Republic, who “decided not to platform an artist who became one of the most recognizable hate-mongering bigots in the world,” while the other orgs seek only to profit from one, the 59-year-old expressed his rage.

Schwimmer also questioned the timing and intent behind West’s recent public apology, referring to a paid advertisement published in a major newspaper. “Remember: Ye’s apologized before, only to retract that apology and double down on his virulent hatred of Jewish people,” he said, adding that the apology was “perhaps part of a PR scheme to assuage folks right before his long-planned return to the stage.”He also pointed to past controversies, including the release of the track “Heil Hitler” and the sale of merchandise featuring swastikas, stating that such actions cannot be dismissed easily.

Schwimmer argued that Kanye West “should not be granted a platform to perform” until he takes further action to prove his apology is genuine. He also suggested the rapper should donate some of his Wireless Festival earnings to Jewish organizations in the U.K. and/or meet with Jewish leaders and artists to have constructive dialog on his statements.
