Shubman Gill opened up on Sai Sudharsan’s strange back-to-back hit-wicket dismissals in Gujarat Titans’ massive Qualifier 2 win over Rajasthan Royals, admitting that even he had never witnessed anything quite like it before. After producing a record-breaking century to guide GT into the IPL 2026 final, Gill opened up on Sudharsan’s freak hit-wicket dismissal, which happened for the second consecutive game. Sudharsan once again lost control of his bat while playing a shot and ended up disturbing the stumps in strange fashion.“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything. No one’s seen anything like that, two matches, back to back in a row. The way he got out,” Gill said after the match. The Gujarat Titans skipper even joked that he might need to follow the same trick that fans had suggested online to avoid a repeat incident.“I saw some video on social media that taping his hand, I think I’m going to have to do that in the next match,” he added humorously.Despite the bizarre dismissal, Sudharsan once again played a crucial role in Gujarat Titans’ emphatic seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. Chasing 215 in Qualifier 2, Gill and Sudharsan completely dismantled the RR bowling attack with a breathtaking 167-run opening partnership off just 77 balls, now the highest stand in IPL playoff history.Gill smashed a majestic 104 off 53 balls in what turned out to be one of the finest knocks of the season. His innings included 15 fours and three sixes as he brought up the fastest century in IPL playoff history. Sudharsan complemented him perfectly with a rapid 58 off 32 balls before his unusual dismissal once again became one of the biggest talking points of the night.Gill admitted that the understanding between him and Sudharsan has become one of Gujarat Titans’ biggest strengths this season.“I think we complement each other very well. We understand each other’s game very well. And when we are batting out there, our communication is very good. We know one of us has to take down one of the bowlers,” Gill explained. The GT captain also revealed he was batting in a special rhythm where everything seemed to flow naturally.“I was in kind of a zone where I was only looking at the gaps and looking at the bowlers and looking at where I want to hit the ball. I wasn’t looking to hit the ball too hard,” Gill said.Interestingly, Gujarat Titans were not expecting such a massive target after Rajasthan Royals appeared headed towards around 180-190 at one stage. However, Donovan Ferreira’s brutal assault on Rashid Khan in the final over, where RR collected 27 runs, pushed the total to 214/6.Earlier in the evening, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had once again stolen the spotlight with a sensational 96 off 47 balls after Rajasthan lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel inside the opening two overs. But even Sooryavanshi’s brilliance proved insufficient once Gill and Sudharsan launched their extraordinary assault in the chase. Gujarat Titans eventually completed the highest successful chase in franchise history and booked a blockbuster IPL 2026 final clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Ahmedabad.
