CHENNAI: As Chennai Super Kings prepare for their final home game of IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, one question has completely overshadowed the build up — will MS Dhoni play at Chepauk? The MA Chidambaram Stadium has been at the centre of rising anticipation ever since Dhoni’s subtle but intriguing training routine on the eve of the match, with fans scanning every possible clue about his availability. “Not happening today!”: Ashwin drops selection bombshellFormer India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, however, appeared to pour cold water on the speculation with a blunt social media post that instantly went viral and intensified the debate around Dhoni’s role.“Not happening today! In 2027? May be. Don’t think any batting changes will happen. Akeal Hosein in?” Ashwin posted ahead of CSK’s final home game of the season against SRH.The timing of the post created a fresh wave of discussion, with fans interpreting it as a clear indication that Dhoni may not feature in the playing XI. It also triggered renewed conversations around his future.Adding further fuel to the buzz, CSK’s own social media activity amplified speculation. The franchise urged fans to stay back after the match for a traditional “Lap of Honour,” a message that quickly snowballed into retirement chatter online.“It’s time to give back to you, Superfans. Stay back and be a part of our annual ritual – Lap of Honour!” CSK posted ahead of the Chepauk clash. Net session sparks hope amid confusionAs per an Indian Express report, Dhoni’s match-eve routine added another layer to the mystery. A padded-up Dhoni was seen walking out at 6:30 PM, heading to the indoor nets without a trainer for the first time in weeks. After light stretching, he spent time in the nets for nearly 30 minutes, facing throwdowns and spinners, even clearing the boundary multiple times before returning to the dressing room by 7:30 PM.Dhoni’s availability has remained the biggest talking point of CSK’s season. He has missed matches due to injury concerns and later stepped away from selection considerations to maintain balance within the XI.However, the uncertainty continues to fuel anticipation, especially with CSK still mathematically in contention for a playoff push. Ticket demand has surged ahead of the fixture, with Chepauk expected to be packed for what could be one of the most emotionally charged nights of the season.Ashwin adds to the intrigueIn another comment that kept the debate alive, Ashwin had earlier suggested Dhoni has been fit for some time and could still feature, contrary to his latest post.“I have a feeling that against Sunrisers Hyderabad, there is a good chance of MS Dhoni playing,” he had said.
