Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have once again left out their IPL 2024-winning captain Shreyas Iyer from a social media post marking the second anniversary of the franchise’s third IPL title.Shreyas Iyer’s relationship with KKR has remained a talking point since the franchise released him despite leading them to their first IPL title in 10 years in 2024. Punjab Kings later signed him for INR 26.75 crore at the mega auction.Last year, Iyer had also said in an interview with TimesofIndia.com that he did not receive enough credit for KKR’s IPL-winning campaign.On May 26, 2024, KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL final to win their third title. On Tuesday, the franchise marked the second anniversary of that triumph by sharing graphics posts on social media featuring players from the title-winning squad, but former captain Iyer was missing from them.The main graphic showed Andre Russell holding the IPL trophy, while other posts highlighted performances from KKR players in the IPL 2024 final.Fans quickly noticed Iyer’s absence and criticised the franchise on social media.“Like the dedication KKR admin puts to not include Shreyas Iyer in trophy celebrating posts everytime,” a user wrote sarcastically.Another user posted, “The first thing KKR admin do on the morning of 26th May of every year is waking up and removing Shreyas Iyer from their trophy celebration pictures.”
“I thought we were more classy than this , irrespective of the differences with Shreyas we should not have done him dirty here. He won the title as skipper,” another user, seemingly a KKR fan, wrote.This is not the first time KKR has faced criticism over the issue. Since 2025, sections of fans have repeatedly accused the franchise of not acknowledging Iyer’s role enough in the IPL 2024 title-winning campaign.Meanwhile, KKR had a disappointing IPL 2026 season under Ajinkya Rahane. The side managed only six wins in 14 matches and failed to qualify for the playoffs. KKR also suffered six consecutive defeats during the season before staying in contention for a playoff spot until their final league match.Iyer’s exit from KKR before the 2025 mega auction had surprised many fans, especially after he led the franchise to the title.
