Travel alert issued in Jammu & Kashmir till April 10, 2026; IMD predicts rain and snowfall

In a recent update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert of rainfall in the plains and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir in early April. Travellers planning a trip to the Union Territory are warned that the weather will remain the same because of an active western disturbance till April 10. As per IMD forecasts, the Western Himalayan region will experience intermittent spells of precipitation. The sky will remain cloudy and the upper regions will experience light to moderate rain, and snowfall. Kashmir Weather took to X and warned of incoming Western Disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir in next 36 hours. “A strong Western Disturbance is set to impact Jammu and Kashmir over the next 36 hours, bringing widespread moderate to heavy rain showers across the UT. Higher reaches and mountain passes, including Zojila, Sinthan Top, Mughal Road, Sadhna Top, and Razdan Top, are likely to witness fresh snowfall.”Why such sudden shift in weatherAs per experts, the reason behind the unstable weather pattern is a fresh western disturbance in the Mediterranean region. Because of this, there’s moisture into the Himalayas which is triggering rain in plains and snow in mountainous regions.Prime Travel Impact AreasGulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam are likely to receive fresh snowfall.In the plains of Kashmir Valley & Jammu rain showers are expected Mountain Passes & Highways can suffer from slippery roads and reduced visibilityTravel will remain disrupted during such weather events. Snowfall and rain can impact road transport, especially in hilly terrain. What travellers should knowAmid the changing weather conditions, the IMD and local authorities have advised tourists to remain cautious.
