Alexandra Grant offered a rare and candid glimpse into her relationship with Keanu Reeves at the launch event for her new wine brand in Los Angeles recently. The 53-year-old visual artist spoke openly about their dynamic, touching on everything from creative boundaries to mutual respect and the importance of giving each other space to work.Speaking with People at the event, Grant reflected on what made their relationship work, particularly when it came to supporting one another’s individual creative processes.

Grant revealed that both she and Reeves, 61, were careful when it came to offering feedback on each other’s work. “He’s always so appreciative, so he’s always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same,” she said when discussing whether she allowed Keanu to visit her art studio while she was working. “You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake. Just talking about my love makes me sweat.“She went on to describe the listening and communication that underpinned their bond. “I would say that there is all the listening in the world that we know that we could talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if that is needed, and also respect the individual need to dive deep and have a process that’s maybe quiet or in another collaboration.”For Grant, the secret to their dynamic came down to two things. “The key to it is the mutual respect, and also just like, come on, it’s play, right? It’s play that we get to play creatively,” she said. “The last thing I will say that I think we share is just the belief in projects. Every project has its own autonomy, its own team, its own sort of rules, and it has a beginning, middle, and end. So we both are people who do projects, and you know, I’ve lived with John Wick, I’ve lived with Neo.“She elaborated on what it meant to respect Reeves when he was deep in a role. “When he’s in a character, for example, I have so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project. And I think the same goes for painting. When I’m in painter mode, I am in it. I’m fully in it, and it’s not playing a character, but it is performing, you know, painting really is a form of performance too.”

Grant and Reeves first connected while working together on the book ‘Ode to Happiness’. The couple later co-founded a publishing house together and eventually made their relationship public. Grant was a regular presence at Reeves’ red carpet events and premieres, having attended the premiere of ‘Outcome’ earlier this year and sharing a sweet moment with him at the ‘Good Fortune’ premiere last October.
